      Software Engineer Interview

      Jul 6, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Vancouver, BC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at 7Geese (Vancouver, BC) in Jul 2017

      Interview

The first step of the job process was okay, not much communication but still, moved to the second phase, The second interview was simply a joke, the interviewer (A software engineer ) asks me personal questions and everything, it was smooth and all, then he asks me to share my screen and gives me a quite complex task to do on the spot, and he analyzes quietly my screen as I am doing it, like a huge amount of discomfort. After having it half way done, I said I was stuck and I would have some time to think about it, he says thank you and that it was enough, and cuts short the interview. He closes it up by giving a conclusion: "90% of people approach like you did, trying brute force, we're looking for those other 10%. I would advise you to go to this . .... website and get some practices there." I really appreciated the time and the opportunity, but honestly I find it was a bit amateur and arrogant without saying unprofessional to diminish someone as he did. I don't know if they expect anyone to be engaged and happy to receive an offer from them after you're being called out on the spot like that. Finally, I asked how he got hired, he says he had a couple of days for a coding challenge, so he sent to them and they liked it. Well I find it way more reasonable then come up with a crazy question that you may never use on a real world. Anyway, hopefully they find what they want, but please next time be a bit more empathetic and realistic, and work on your HR processes.. I hope this feedback helps you.
