What is a typical working day like at WinCo Foods?

Great pay and friendly people, but management issues

      Pros

Winco pays very well compared to other grocery stores in the area. Coworkers are friendly, and ESOP and benefits are also really good if you can get hours to contribute to the ESOP or your benefits,

      Cons

The scheduling is very inconsistent. Couple shifts you'll be closing and then in the middle of the week you get a mid shift schedule which is typically 10-6:30 or 11-7:30 and then on you're Friday before your weekend you end up being scheduled a closing shift which typically is 1-9:30pm and as we get closer to summer it's 1:30-10pm. Manager doesn't know how to make a consistent schedule at all. The only people who get consistent schedules are the openers, managers and people who've been there for a longer period of time. People have voiced this to the produce manager, but he is tone deaf and wants people to have "variety". Which doesn't make any sense at all. Give us the shifts we want to have, and stop giving people random shifts all the time. The only way to get a better shift it seems like is to wait for people to quit, or get fired. Good luck though because all the people who are in this department don't want to leave at all and have been there for years. In the Fall through Spring they will cut your hours instead of 40 hours a week, I ended up getting cut to 32 hours because corporate gives a certain amount of hours to different departments. Although our store is busy they can't seem to allocate hours properly because the Idaho stores which where WinCo resides in gets more hours than the stores who put in more profit and they aren't nearly as busy. Management also seems to promote people a lot from within and are very particular on who they hire because it all revolves around there favorites. There is no point in even trying to go for a higher position because you'll get snuffed out due to favoritism even if you have experience and a hard worker.
