Pros
Intelligent, interesting peers and mentors occasionally exist
Cons
Tulane’s bottom line conflicts with its role as a cutting edge research institution. Overwork & burnout are rampant. Doctoral student annual stipends are the only form of paid employment at Tulane that do not receive cost of living increases. So the same pay Tulane gave doctoral students in 2015 is still what it gives today, despite rampant inflation. This effectively requires grad students to take on outside jobs to make ends meet and extend their graduation timelines because we’re too strapped for cash to focus on our research! Insane.
