How flexible is your schedule working at Southwest Research Institute?

Great benefits, flexible hours, fairly regular pay increases

Depending on the people, poor work/life balance

No clocking in and out. Just recording your time on your time sheet by the end of the day.

There are very limited growth opportunities

Flexible schedule and stack-able days off that transfer to the next year and so forth.

No bonuses, rarely any promotions, and no sense of direction and leadership.

Amazing place to work if you love research. Very, very flexible hours and the people were all very kind. As a new engineer, they were very understanding and were totally willing to work with me and mentor me throughout my internship.

There isn't much potential for promotion at swri. You can pretty much expect 4-5 years before you see anything of the sort. Also, you can expect the transition into the company and any work to be slower than normal, about 6 months before things really pick up.

Honestly, I don’t think I could ask for a better job coming straight out of college. They put me straight to work on projects where I’ve already learned a ton. Only con I can think of is that the pay could be higher, but considering the cost of living in San Antonio, pay is still pretty good.

SwRI has a great culture. Fun events throughout the year, town halls, flexible work schedule, cafeteria with good food, onsite medical clinic, fitness center, and benefits make it a fantastic place to work.
