Health care coverage is good, diversity and inclusivity is also good if a bit performative. The buildings and amenities are very nice and comfortable.

The hybrid policy which was stated to be “here to stay” was a bold faced lie. So desperate this organization is to justify their real estate costs that they are blind to how much productivity a hybrid schedule allows. Disingenuous leadership cutting employee bonuses by 50% for even high performers is a joke. How out of touch they are! It would be hilarious if employees were not having their careers ruined. All this while Navy Fed is making profit hand over fist, even going so far as to get in bed with corrupt politicians to have $90 million lawsuits canceled. What a disappointment for what was once a prestigious institution.

The team is generally friendly and supportive. Flexibility with work hours and remote work options. Some opportunities for skill development through on-the-job experience.

Management often lacks clear direction and effective communication. There have been concerns regarding favoritism and lack of diversity training, leading to an uncomfortable atmosphere. Advancement tends to be based on personal relationships rather than performance or merit, which can hinder fair growth opportunities. The workplace environment can sometimes feel biased, making it difficult for some employees to feel fully included or valued.

NFCU advertises itself as a company that cares about its employees. However, the promotion process is unfair and lacks transparency. It is so difficult to get promoted or change job roles across departments. Also, I was once told by a recruiter that the maximum pay increase that I could receive was 10% although I was moving to a completely different department and my skills had grown exponentially. When I first started at the company I was a new parent and fresh out of school, so I wasn’t confident enough to ask for what I deserved in terms of compensation. It is ridiculously unfair that the compensation I receive any time I change roles/departments is always going to be anchored by my starting salary at the company. Also the diversity at the executive level is pathetic- don’t even get me started on the lack of diversity on the board of directors (that makes all of the decisions for the company).

The collections department is known to be the "trash can" of the company. The work culture and work/life balance is terrible. Very typical corporate ladder climb and incredibly misogynistic. Hiring process is not fair and is all on who you know which is how most places can be but it was blatant and obvious. Friends hiring friends into leadership positions who are completely unqualified. Again, I can only speak for the collections department, so you might be okay as long as you avoid this department!

Most employees can do baseline work without consequences. Bonuses are good today but will change in 2025 so that most employees will receive lower bonuses than the last decade.

Underqualified and manipulative leadership/management, toxic work environment, skill set is under industry standard. Racism is also a problem that from leadership that has been ignored by higher leaders and HR.

-bonus is okay (I got 2k this year) - benefits are good (7% match 401k, 300 wellness reimbursement, and decently priced health insurance)

-Management is toxic and passive aggressive. They micromanage a lot. The company prides itself on the fact that they don't push "sales" of credit cards, loans, etc but lately management has been pushing us to basically sell those items. - In branch, it's almost impossible to move up due to lack of higher position available. - Yearly raises suck (I got 2% this past year) which doesn't even keep up with inflation. Newer employees get paid more than employees that have been with the company for years. - lots of bullying goes on in the work place and it's very clique. - lack of training and career development. - no flexibly

They have amazing benefits, make sure that you take full advantage of these while you are here with them. You will build amazing relationships in the workplace with other people and get to know different people.

Make sure that you stick to the whole work life is separate from personal life balance. Because in the lending Department a lot of people don't do that. I was very good about maintaining professionalism both inside and outside of the workplace. Also if you're really good at your job good luck if you want to get moved somewhere else, they are making it extremely difficult to get interviews anywhere else. I put in several for the same position and I still could not get an interview for the Department that I wanted to be in, and it was a department that I could not shadow. I put in so many different ones shadowed so many different departments and I still could not get my foot in the door for an interview to get out of lending. They do not give you equal opportunity here. It is purely based upon favoritism and friendship, as well as personality. They do not base it upon experience or how well you do your job. That's how it works here. If you work on the phones make sure you mute yourself or unplug if you get frustrated, because if you even call a member a very small name that is not nice, that is not derogatory while not on a call you will be in trouble for it. They are very quick to let people go there now for some reason, and that's what they did with me but I was not let go for anything that was work related. Collections is turning into an absolute nightmare, there's so many changes and the systems are slow, and we're not listened to half of the time. They hear us but they don't do anything about it. Meeting after meeting we are getting reprimanded for things that are out of our control half of the time. And the different departments within lending do not communicate with each other very well between management. Also HR is not your friend and they will absolutely try to destroy you and get rid of you so quick if you make one simple mistake. Also lately Navy Federal has definitely preferred to hire people outside of the workplace instead of promoting from within, especially for bigger positions. And they hire a lot of contractors causing a lot of us that really want to move out of our position to be stuck where we are.

They pay very well and you only have to be employed for 2 years to be fully vested.

Anyone that watches the news, knows that the organization is currently being sued for racism by a portion of its member base. And it's believable. It's a very conservative company, particularly within their Security division. I held two roles - and the first role was wonderful. If I had stopped my Navy Fed trajectory right there, it would have been great. I ended up getting another role within Credit Card Recovery in the Security division and that's when it started going downhill. Overall, it wasn't horrible but the Security division needs work.
