Pros
NSU offers a fairly comprehensive health insurance package. Employees have access to Blue Cross Blue Shield medical plans (PPOs), plus things like pharmacy, behavioral health, and vision coverage. There is also an Employee Wellness Program, which offers perks such as free primary care visits, complimentary lab work, annual wellness exams, and a variety of wellness-oriented services. The University includes a decent range of behavioral and mental health benefits: outpatient counseling, employee assistance programs (EAP), virtual care, etc. For leaves of absence, NSU follows FMLA rules, offers short‐ and long‐term disability, maternity benefits, etc., so there are backup protections in place when life happens.
Cons
Pay and advancement lag behind comparable institutions, according to many employee reviews. Salary is often described as “low” relative to peers. Work‐life balance is considered decent, but it depends heavily on the department and supervisor. Some roles are more flexible than others; others seem to require more hours or have less flexibility. Management practices and internal communications sometimes draw criticism. Policies are inconsistent, or it takes effort to navigate bureaucracy.
