      Cashier
      Former employee
      Pittsburgh, PA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Throughout my time working there, I had many great experiences with my coworkers. They were very respectful of my identities and were kind people to be around.

      Cons

However, I often disagreed with management. Whenever I submitted a request for time off, management would usually schedule me for that day anyway, without informing me, which led to me being reprimanded despite having gone through the proper channels.

      Personal shopper
      Former employee

      Recommend

      Business outlook

      Pros

Extra pay on Sundays and holiday weeks, tip pool for curbside workers, coworkers are usually nice and helpful, managers can usually work with you on how you're scheduled

      Cons

Sometimes need to work holidays, employee discount could be better (only 10% off Giant Eagles brand products), high turnover, takes a long time to increase your amount of vacation weeks

      Cons

Pay isn’t great, hours can be bad, vacation time non-existent

      Understaffed and Overworked

      Cashier
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

My coworkers are fantastic and friendly, my manager is really nice, and I appreciate the benefits like vacation time I've accumulated.

      Cons

There are never enough cashiers and the front end is constantly kept understaffed, cashiers' requests for more/less hours are ignored, cashiers and coordinators are regularly expected to leave the front end to go fetch more carts from outside which leaves front end even MORE understaffed, and the shift times/lengths are so inconsistent that cashiers, coordinators, and managers are very often highly stressed and sleep-deprived.

      Catering Team Leader

      Catering team leader
      Former employee
      Pittsburgh, PA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

PTO, sick time, and personal days are a pro. HR team is very helpful when you let them know grievances and how escalating will negatively impact an employee's experience with the company. They want you to help them help you. Also, overall there is room for growth within the company. I probably would have stayed with the company had I not moved states for family reasons. I would consider working for the company again if I could transition into a corporate career as I no longer am seeking store-level positions

      Cons

Not enough people work here. Also this position is a non union position in a union store so technically nobody is allowed to be "cross-trained" in catering. When you're busy, you are pretty much on your own with your small team whereas other departments can pull people from other departments.
