Cons
The definition of a sink or swim job/company. Datadog provides 1 week of in-person training that touches all topics at a high level (but mainly geared towards sales) before transitioning to outdated, self-learning training. Extremely technical products and personas, need high level of aptitude and interest to learn products and have quality conversations with clients. All about the buddy and mentor system - if you get good ones you should probably do OK, if you don't then you're most likely going to fail as they help you get comfortable with the massive tool sprawl, processes, and product knowledge. Management is not there to help or support you, they're there to enforce rules and processes. If you're someone who approaches your job as a true independent contributor/contractor, meaning you enjoy being fully autonomous and full ownership of accounts and only need management for unblocking or approvals then it's the right job for you. If you're someone who needs a bit of direction and support look elsewhere, you won't receive it. Massive company, have to be extremely self-reliant to get information using out of date systems, poor tooling. Lots of changes and unclear expectations causes frustrations. More of a sales role than CSM role.
