How are the career development opportunities at Coda?

      Coda reviews

Toxic senior leadership and endless chaos – avoid unless desperate

      Operations
      Former employee
      Kuala Lumpur
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      • Exposure to global publishers and payment markets. • A few colleagues are genuinely talented and supportive. • Fast-paced environment forces you to pick up problem-solving skills quickly.

      Cons

      • Leadership has no clear strategy – priorities change weekly, often based on personal whims. • Teams are constantly treated as disposable “firefighters” or tools, with zero respect for boundaries. • Severe lack of resources: understaffed, underfunded, but overloaded with unrealistic expectations. • No transparency in career growth or performance evaluation – promotions depend more on politics than merit. • Culture drains you mentally and emotionally. Burnout is normalized, appreciation is rare.

Promising Organization Plaqued by Flawed Upper Management

      Business outlook

      Pros

      - Decent remuneration if you fight for it - Interesting and fun industry - Exposure to other cultures - Opportunity to build meaningful connections - Steep learning curve

      Cons

Coda presents itself as a people-first company, but in my experience leadership appears primarily focused on business outcomes. The environment frequently feels affected by favoritism, inconsistent management practices, and a rigid organizational structure that sometimes creates unnecessary complications. Communication from leadership is not always clear, and expectations can shift without much transparency. Promotions often prioritize individual performance over people-management capability, which can lead to micromanagement and uneven leadership quality. Their job leveling framework also feels inflexible and occasionally results in unusual reporting structures, including situations where employees report to peers or juniors. Recognition and bonus decisions can feel subjective due to the amount of managerial discretion involved. Overall, concerns raised by employees do not always appear to lead to meaningful change. Often, employees seem to leave the company abruptly, with limited explanation provided internally. Based on my experience, I would not recommend working here.

      - Salary increases are not that great (but many companies in the netherlands fail on that)

      Pros

      - Fast-Paced, Innovative Culture: Working at Coda was exciting due to its dynamic environment that really pushes you to learn and grow continuously. I loved the thrill of rapid development. - Talented and Diverse Team: I was lucky to work alongside an amazing group of people from diverse backgrounds. The collaboration and knowledge sharing made the experience even better. - Opportunities for Professional Development: Coda offered a lot of opportunities for growth, from training sessions to new responsibilities, and I definitely saw my career progress as a result.

      Cons

      - Inconsistent Processes: Quick growth led to unclear documentation and confusion. - Work-Life Balance Issues: The fast-paced environment sometimes resulted in burnout for teams. - Communication Gaps: Communication was generally good but inconsistent between departments. - Resource Constraints: Growth occasionally stretched our resources thin, increasing stress. - Evolving Company Culture: The close-knit start-up feel diminished as the company expanded, making it harder to maintain community.

A collaborative and evolving environment where engineers are empowered

      Pros

Referring to engineering, because that's the department I'm in and I can speak most of :) At recharge there are plenty of growth opportunities for learning new technologies (ie: typescript, nx, nextjs etc) as well as practicing your hard and soft skills. Collaborative environment: we have a supportive team atmosphere that values engineers’ input. There's also an emphasis on fostering collaboration across teams, encouraging ownership, and breaking down siloed knowledge. We work with a modern tech stack which is not only fun, but also keeps us relevant on the market. In general, as a company, Recharge is a fun place to work at. We have a great office, very fun celebrations (really nice summer and Christmas parties) and delicious food. I love the atmosphere and it's what makes me be happy about coming to the office 3 times a week.

      Cons

We're in a transformation phase, so part of our application still has legacy code and siloed knowledge which is not very fun to deal with. The business model can be tough to grasp at first (for me it was), but it is also interesting.

      Pros

      - Great compensation & benefits - Room for growth & career development - Lots of people & DEI initiatives - Remote working

      Cons

      - None so far. Remote working may feel isolating at times but the company has offices across countries so there is still an option to socialize with colleagues every now and then

      Business outlook

      Pros

      - The Bangkok Tech market doesn't have many options. Apart from Agoda, no one else can match the compensation offered. - Technical challenges are mid. - Recently acquired another company and has good runway and outlook.

      Cons

      - Technical talent maturity is low but trending upward. - Recommend Bangkok for lifestyle changes, not for a technical career improvement.

Need fresh eyes! Our team's super experienced, which is awesome, but that means we might miss out on new ideas. Hiring some junior folks can help us see things from a different angle.
