Pay seems good but health insurance takes a lot of it

“Lunch break” is only 20 minutes from the time you leave your register until you have to be back to it.
One minute late to clock in is considered late - even if the time clock did not accept your punch in for the first four attempts with the first two being on time.
You are expected to not only do cashier, but also janitorial, stocking, keeping coffee bar and soda fountain stocked and fresh, rotating products, escorting or being the Buc-ee mascot on the weekends, manning an outdoor ice cream stand in 100+ degree weather with no way to cool down for up to 3 hours at a time, told to ignore when registers ring up wrong amounts or items that the person hasn’t purchased (“we know, they are working on it” or “the registers just do that sometimes”).
If you are lucky, you get 3 days of training before manning a register yourself.
Team leads are not consistent in what they tell you to do and what they do tell you can change from shift to shift or team lead to team lead.
No discount on any products in store, only free drinks in company supplied cup (20oz) while on shift and don’t fill it up when your shift is done and you are walking out the door or it is considered theft.
Loss prevention only looks for internal theft, there are signs posted at all the time clocks offering rewards to employees if they report other employees for theft. What they consider theft starts at the “give a penny, take a penny” holder at the register-if you take a penny out of there or if you pick a penny up off of the floor and don’t turn it in to be put in a register, you are considered a thief.
Grooming standards are not held to company policy - what may be fine one day will be a write up the next and managers aren’t held to the same standards as regular employees.
If an employee calls out for some reason, management will not call another employee in to cover the open shift. Sometimes there are only 4 people covering cashier/coffee bar duties for 3 registers at opposite ends of the store with the team lead covering coffee/fountain.
You can’t leave the store during breaks and there is not a refrigerator to keep your food in if you bring food from home - also no assigned lockers because you are expected to take all personal items home at the end of shift.
The “break room” is two tall small tables in the warehouse area with two stools at each one and you are not allowed to put in ear pods at any point during your shift or fired. Phones have to be turned off at all times during your shift, if you are seen on it at any point other than your 20 minute break back in the warehouse, it is instant termination. Emergency calls from home have to be called to the main store number to be relayed by a member of management to the employee.
Your schedule can shift from days to evenings and back in the same week - at times you will close the store at 10 and have to be back to open the next morning.
8 or 9 days straight with split days off at the end of it is not uncommon.
The “welcome in” that customers hear when they walk in is mandatory for the cashiers to say, even if there is a customer being checked out in front of them at the time - a write up will occur if you don’t say it or even if you don’t say it loud enough!
Turnover is constant which is why the pay rate is posted at every entrance. It is not uncommon for employees to quit in the middle of their shift or just not show up for work again with no notice.
Constantly warned that “Corporate will show up soon and you could be fired for doing that (insert latest pet peeve here)”
Overall extremely toxic work environment - the pay is not worth it!
