It's a very paper heavy environment and owner likes to micro manage and have copies of everything which results in the office having boxes of paper and stacks of paper all over. While most companies use voice mail, e-mail, have caller ID, and .pdf to store documents this company is more like a company from 20 years ago with lots of faxes, no individual e-mail, no caller ID, and no voice mail and A LOT of paper stored in boxes everywhere. Most of your day is digging up paper files, making copies for paper files, making another copy for the owner, and still another copy for secondary files you may have to keep for your records. The process is not at all efficient, but the owner prefers it this way.
Also there is almost no proactive processes in place. The company is built to make the owner happy, and his focus can change on a daily or hourly basis. The owner will be very reactive to any issues and wants it fixed asap with changing priorities and lacking clear focus. He may have you put down a several thousand dollar issue to focus on a ten dollar issue he has questions about. He is the owner and calls the shots, but this makes for a staff that is not fully utilized to maximize profit and this in turn spends a lot of time with changing focus and in turn can be very inefficient.
Finally the owner has a reputation as having a quick and bad temper.
