Pros
The work itself is easy if you are a self starter and are able to learn on your own. Telecommuting options are available which is a plus and saves money and time on commuting downtown. The benefits are amazing and the job is stable.
Cons
Everything is entirely dependent on which department you are in. You never know what you get until you are there. I worked at the Office of Finance with supervisors who micromanaged and never once offered praise or even just a “good job.” Supervisors at the Office of Finance have nothing better to do than keep an eye on subordinates like a hawk waiting to find something wrong. They have very little trust in their subordinates which has created a lack of office morale. They are constantly changing rules and threatening to remove telecommuting options if employees are even 1 minute late. They do not allow you to use sick days without indirect retaliation which is illegal and they will put you in unacceptable working conditions in offices without proper equipment or windows. Mind you, supervisors do minimal work and are constantly asking subordinates for help completing ACTUAL work, since they do not know what to do. All they do is micromanage and talk on the phone with other managers or friends. Very few times I have seen them do actual work. Completely demoralizing knowing they make at least $100,000 more than administrative clerks
