Pros

Staff are talented and friendly

Cons

Management marginalised staff input, not invested into a team environment, critical vs positive reinforcement. Preferential treatment to some staff members who speak mandarin. Shifting policies depending on who you speak to. No encouragement in the part of management. All meetings and events outside of working hours are mandatory although unpaid.

Pros

I got along with a couple of the people there Christmas time at the kelowna location was fun, got to watch it snow while at my desk responding to emails. I was also alone in the store 9/10 times by 3:30 ( the store closed at 5pm)

Cons

Oh boy, there's a lot. I worked for this company from 2019-2022. The manager for the Kelowna location created a toxic work environment, frequently making employees feel undervalued and unsupported. Training consisted of only five short sessions (about two hours each), and beyond that, I was told to figure things out through Google or YouTube. When I asked for help, I was often told she was too busy—though I regularly saw her on her phone or playing games. I was promoted from the warehouse to sales within a year with only a $1/hr raise. A year later, I was moved to salary with one of the worst commission structures I’ve ever encountered. On top of that, I had to wait three additional months to receive any commission, and the percentage was disappointingly low. In the summer of 2021 (May-August), we had about 50 walk-in customers, and only 10 made purchases. I didn’t receive a single commission check that year—but my manager still did, since she received bonuses based on my sales. On top of sales, I was also expected to manage the warehouse—operating the forklift, handling shipping/receiving, and moving heavy rugs and flooring. Many rugs weighed between 50-120 lbs, and I was regularly required to lift them alone. I injured my back multiple times doing this over four years. Complaints about these conditions often resulted in employees being let go—I personally saw this happen to four warehouse workers. I was eventually terminated for 'not having a working vehicle and license'—which was needed for site measurements—but I believe the real reason was my honesty during a company review. When the owners visited for their annual assessments, I shared my concerns about store operations, including questionable management practices. Some of the higher-ups seemed to care, but nothing changed, and the high turnover continued. My advice: Find another job. This company is not worth the stress. Working here negatively impacted my mental well-being, and it took me a year to secure another position because I couldn’t use this job as a reference.
