Pros

Cool office. That's really it.

Cons

Please, dear god in heaven, never, ever, EVER, under any circumstance, get a job here. I struggle to even know where to begin. Mr. Fenton (CEO) is truly, the worst person I have ever met in my entire life. He knows how to be nice to people at first and give him the benefit of the doubt (very surface level kindness). He drowns people with compliments and praise so excessively that it feels very unnatural. This is nothing but a mask. You realize this is just part of his “equation for success”, be overly nice to people and utilize them later. After a little while of working for him he turns into a manipulating narcissist, and you see him for what he truly is. He bends and twists truths, shouts over you when you try to speak to him, explodes if you do anything that isn't exactly what he says (explodes even IF you do exactly what he says!), explodes at you for things he wants that he never told you he wants, puts you in impossible scenarios where you can’t win/do your job correctly and thus opens a window to explode at you when you fail, explodes at you when you make a mistake but if he makes a mistake its nothing but a tiny fix, blasts your work as pure garbage 24/7, etc. He says he does this because he is “tough” and wants to train his employees to be the best, which is absolute bull. This is all to degrade your sanity and make you question yourself. You begin to think you're at fault for everything, even though when you relay stories to outside friends/family, they're horrified at what you've gone through. Your mental state will reach rock bottom. I believe he has a desire to control people, have people serve him, and have his own personal punching bag. He speaks in that very generic corporate jargon that gets easily drowned out, but when you pay attention you realize he’s not saying anything specific (commonly used by corporate people/politicians, and whadd’ya know he used to be both!) and blows up at you when you don’t decipher what he means/ask “can you be more specific?”. All the while he has 0 self-reflection and either doesn’t realize what he’s doing and views himself as ALWAYS right OR does realize what he’s doing and its intentional. You might think I'm being dramatic, overly critical, or whatever. I'm not. Look at the countless other negative reviews about GoLocalProv + Mr. Fenton, everything you see is true. I’ve worked at many jobs in my life and I’ve only experienced these types of people twice, and Mr. Fenton is one of them. They prey on the well intentioned and good spirited. They’re truly dangerous, stay away. Other bullet points of things I’ve experienced: - NEVER had a paycheck on time OR with the correct amount - LIED about my pay (told me I was a full-time employee but actually listed me as a contractor) - Expects you to reply to his email/text IMMEDIATELY at ANY point of the day

Pros

I interned at GoLocal in their early years and got to experience the all hands on deck, fast-paced startup atmosphere. All interns were part of the team doing real work, jumping in on projects wherever help was needed, going out and shooting interviews and doing research for new stories. Overall positive experience and definitely prepared me for life after college.

Cons

I guess the worst part was no pay

Pros

While at GoLocalProv, I had the opportunity to meet several interesting people outside the company and improve my professional network.

Cons

I was hired at GoLocal under the promise that I would be given the opportunity to learn. My salary was less than the listed minimum because I "lacked sufficient experience." It quickly became evident that I would not be given sufficient time to learn and adapt to my role, nor the support I requested and was promised. I was frequently berated for my "substandard" work and was expected to constantly work overtime without receiving anything for it. Emails belittling my work were sent at all hours of the day. Work-life balance is completely nonexistant. I witnessed my coworkers getting the same treatment every day, many to the point of quitting to escape the abuse. After I left the organization, it took me several months and outside intervention to receive my final check.
