Summary
Under the supervision of the Shop Manager, the Shop Foreman is responsible for leading, planning, and managing all maintenance and repair activities for drilling equipment and the vehicle fleet for the Ontario operations. They are responsible for leading the team to provide efficient service for the company's operations and ensuring the smooth running of services both at the garage and at other maintenance and repair sites outside the garage.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads mechanical maintenance activities by optimizing the use of parts, tools, equipment, and labour to meet or exceed maintenance planning targets.
- Supervises, directs, and coaches employees to ensure maximum performance.
- Collaborates in planning to ensure maximum performance and efficiency of activities;
- Participates in meetings with the operations department and shop manager to help set priorities.
- ·Performs various administrative tasks related to parts and equipment requisitioning and preventive maintenance activities.
- Analyzes various issues encountered and, with the help of maintenance employees under your supervision, proposes solutions and improvements;
- Ensures maximum recovery of mechanical parts and equipment;
- Ensures that the premises are kept clean and safe and controls access and traffic in the garage;
- Perform all other related tasks necessary for the smooth running of operations.
Profile and Requirements
- Hold a Mechanic Diploma or official certification in a relevant mechanical trade.
- A minimum of five (5) years of practical mechanical experience with a strong focus on diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of high-pressure hydraulic systems specific to heavy mobile or drilling equipment. Experience with pneumatic systems is also highly valued.
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically: Excel, Outlook and Word.
- Exceptional communication skills to clearly convey technical instructions, report status, and collaborate effectively with mechanics, operators, and management.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an Explosives License (e.g., General Explosives Permit from the Sûreté du Québec) to ensure eligibility for supporting or managing activities related to explosives handling, storage, or transport, as required by the company.
- Required to hold Ontario Common Core certification for Underground and/or Surface operations.
- Proven capacity for managing multiple concurrent shop activities and supervising a team of staff.
- Highly adaptable and resilient when handling frequent, unforeseen mechanical issues and last-minute operational changes in a demanding environment.
- Strong supervisory skills to lead, train, and manage shop personnel effectively.
- Exhibits a high degree of focus, concentration, and sound professional judgment in all decision-making.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is considered a strong asset, though not mandatory.
- Must hold a valid, current and full G driver's licence
- Must be willing to travel if required (up to 15% of the time)
- The successful candidate must be able to pass a satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) as a condition of employment.
Schedule and Work Location
- Sudbury branch
- Daytime schedule, 40 hours/week over 5 days
- Availability outside of regular working hours may be required.
- Over time, when required.
