We are seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead, mentor, and develop our mechanical engineering team while driving the design and delivery of complex automation systems.
This individual will play a key role in growing the mechanical design department, establishing standards, improving workflows, and ensuring consistent, high-quality design output across all projects.
The Mechanical Design Manager is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and delivery of mechanical design initiatives from concept through to completion.
This role oversees both team performance and project execution, ensuring mechanical designs are delivered on time, within project constraints, and meet all technical, quality, and performance requirements.
Following project hand-off from sales, the Manager will take ownership of defining design scope, objectives, and resource allocation to support successful execution.
The Mechanical Design Manager is accountable for the performance of the mechanical design function, including design quality, project timelines, and engineering efficiency.
Success in this role requires ensuring designs are delivered on schedule, aligned with project requirements, and support overall project delivery objectives, while continuously improving team performance, processes, and standards.

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Mechanical Designers to achieve high performance and professional growth

Assign and manage workload, ensuring effective resource allocation across projects

Establish and maintain design standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives

Oversee mechanical design development including 2D/3D layouts, models, and detailed drawings

Review and approve drawings, designs, and bills of materials to ensure accuracy and completeness

Ensure designs meet performance requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and quality standards

Guide concept development, design decisions, and material selection

Ensure compliance with applicable standards, machine safety requirements, and company processes

Manage multiple projects, ensuring alignment with timelines, priorities, and deliverables

Coordinate with engineering, controls, manufacturing, and purchasing teams

Monitor team and project performance, proactively resolving technical and resource challenges

Provide technical guidance and problem-solving for complex design challenges

Drive improvements in manufacturability, efficiency, and design consistency

Ensure accurate and organized design documentation and revision control

Support a safe working environment and adherence to company policies

Mechanical design team consistently delivers high-quality, complete, and accurate designs aligned with project requirements and timelines

Strong alignment between design, manufacturing, and project teams, minimizing rework and improving overall execution

Effective resource planning and workload management, ensuring the team is properly prioritized across multiple projects

Design standards, processes, and documentation are clearly defined, maintained, and continuously improved

The team demonstrates strong accountability, ownership, and collaboration, with measurable growth in individual performance

Designs are developed with a strong focus on manufacturability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness

Engineering deliverables consistently support projects being completed on time and within budget

The Mechanical Design Manager is actively developing and mentoring team members, strengthening overall team capability

Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or equivalent experience
-
Minimum 8 years of mechanical design experience in a systems integration environment
-
3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience

Proven experience managing complex engineering or automation projects

P.Eng. designation preferred

Strong proficiency with SolidWorks

Advanced understanding of mechanical design, fabrication, and machining processes

Experience with hydraulics, pneumatic, and machine safety standards

Strong leadership, organizational, and project coordination skills

Proven ability to develop people, manage priorities, and drive accountability

Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities

High level of accountability and dependability in meeting commitments

Effective communication with customers, suppliers, and internal teams

Experience with ERP systems (Zoho preferred)

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel

Willingness to travel and support projects as required
