People apply because it's a worthy cause and it sounds like an amazing opportunity (which it could be if the place had a different CEO). You don't realise until you are actually start work, how totally out of control the CEO is. By then, it's too late. You try different strategies to make it work but then the damaging environment wears you down and you have no choice but to walk away for your own sanity. It's sad but whilst the CEO remains in that position, things won't change. What a waste of tax payers money.
