How do we go about doing small group work or pairwork?
I am a middle school (6th) teacher. I’ve noticed a lot of people in the younger generation seem to struggle a lot. I want to spend this next year making sure that my students are not turning into ChatGPzombies. They will learn: how to hand write essays, write a letter/email, read a book (for fun). We’ll work on Taking notes. Maybe we’ll even practice how to use a dictionary and thesaurus. What ELSE should I make sure my students don’t leave my class without knowing?
I hid a prompt in my final essay instructions that had AI generate the answers it gave in the style of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan arguing in the movie Rush Hour. Most of them didn't even read what AI generated and just copied/pasted the results. A few of them caught it, re-wrote the prompt, and tried to submit more AI work. It was so great. I returned all of the essays and made them write by hand. How have you tricked students into doing things correctly?
I am trying to settle a debate with a fellow teacher. When someone says they plan to arrive between 5-530, when do you anticipate they arrive?
I’m a teacher and talk all day. By the time the weekend comes, I want to see nobody and sit in silence. Lololol….but I’m aware this is not great for my social life! I just wanted to know that I am not alone on this and how you all battle this feeling?
Am I crazy for being floored by this? Our new principal told us (interview committee for a 3rd grade) that she wants to hire fresh out of college teachers who are moldable. 3 experienced teachers were passed up for a first year teacher who just threw in student teaching lingo (nothing wrong with that, but these experienced teachers spoke about real teaching strategies, not just “1 2 3 eyes on me”). Is this normal? I’ve never heard admin say it out right before.
Zoom breakout rooms
6 feet apart working on google docs or something else online that will instantly update as students work. They can still talk to each other!
We use Google Meet and they are supposed to come out with breakout rooms in October.
There is a Google Meet Breakout room extension already. It’s kit created by Google, but it has lots of great components. You do need to learn it before you try to use it. https://www.hudektech.com/projects/breakout
Microsoft Teams also has breakout rooms.
