Which video web conferencing tool do you prefer for collaborative work?
I’m not a morning person and usually roll in around 10 AM. I justify it because I'm always totally caught up or even ahead of schedule before I leave for the day. Still, I'm getting the side-eye from upper management, who get here at 8 AM or earlier. It feels like they think being late means I don't care, no matter how good my output is. Shouldn't high-quality work protect you from the optics of being late?
If you were given one extra hour each workday that had to be spent on professional development, how would you use it? I’d probably split it between learning new tools and studying how other industries solve similar problems. How would you invest that time?
A senior engineer on my team is leaving, and our manager sent a link for a farewell gift card. She mentored me when I was a junior, so I want to chip in, but I can't see what others are giving and have never done this before. She makes great money if that matters. The default options are $20, $30, and $50. What's standard here? Is $30 enough, or should I go higher since she helped me so much?
I'm a junior engineer, but I inherited a project mid-construction because the designer left. I wasn't around for the early phases, but now I’m running the site meetings. I'm stressed about the technical gap and being asked questions I don't know the answers to. I don't want to appear clueless in front of the clients, even though I am. Is it okay to say that I don't know, but I will get back to them? Or does that look unprofessional?
How do you handle disagreements with your manager about technical decisions? I’ve learned to pick my battles and always come with data instead of opinions when I do push back. It doesn’t always work, but it at least keeps the conversation productive. How do you approach it?
We're on Teams, but still use Zoom for all our meetings. I like it a lot more than Teams' version, so I'm glad management decided to keep it. I don't think there's anything special about it; it's just what I'm accustomed to at this point.
Zoom seems clunky but it does have more features.
I like Zoom, the whiteboard feature, now that I know how to use it, has been great. Also sharing screen isn't a hassle. Worked with somebody on google meets before, and did not like it. However I do get biased to the programs I use more. Get so used to everything in one something else is a hassle to learn the slight differences.
Google meet is the worst!
Teams has so many new features (that I don't really know how to use yet) which could make it preferred all around. Between sharing documents, chat, raising hands, and assigning tasks to others, it is my preferred tool.
Teams
Have you tried other ones?
Teams over Zoom all the way!
