I worked at Westmont Hospitality Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

If you have the misfortune to work for WHG, you will forever know what type of work environment to avoid.

    Cons

WHG places no value on work /life balance. It is all about the dollars. Expect management and staff to lie you guests about rates, availability and amenities. Property infrastructure and capital maintenance is lacking to the point of death trap conditions. Corporate support is non-existent. Rather it is a bully atmosphere. I was expected to work at least 20 hours a week without pay and admonished if I wasn't checking emails as late as 11 pm.

I worked at Westmont Hospitality Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great opportunity to develop problem solving, communication and customer service skills

    Cons

Long hours are expected of lower tier management, often working 50 - 60 hours week and only paid for 40. Poor leadership from head office, asking for any assistance is frowned upon and you are told to figure it out yourself. In the 4 years I spent at my location almost no investment was made into the building, major repairs were needed as the building is practically falling apart. It was weekly fight to get much needed, regular supplies like breakfast food and linens. You are expected to be on-call 24/7 because they pay $50 a month for your cell phone, it was not uncommon to work 7AM to 7PM and receive phone calls at 11PM, 2AM, 5AM, etc. The pay was unacceptable for the level of commitment and responsibility expected and I was expected to manage staff at a higher pay rate than myself. I stopped working for the company fully 3 months ago and have yet to receive my last 3 weeks of pay or my built up vacation pay.

I worked at Westmont Hospitality Group full-time

    Pros

Property level associates a pleasure to work alongside.

    Cons

One of the worst hospitality management companies for corporate culture and leadership. Bottom line-profit first mentality- their greatest asset-people- are treated poorly and motivated by fear. It's a shame these companies continue to exist in a people first industry. Their mission and values are just words on a piece of paper. For any new hospitality grads or tenured hospitality professionals- go elsewhere.
