    Pros

There is good and bad in every company. If you are committed to quality and a hard worker (and I don't mean a workaholic) then you are acknowledged. It can be tough sometimes because you are held accountable, but all that does is make you a better team player because everyone is held to same standard. Every department is different, but from what I see everyday each department has its own culture and dynamic and on the whole it looks like most people enjoy coming to work every day.

    Cons

As I said it can be tough. Western is always going to be a work in progress because they have so many plans. It would be nice to know what is happening a bit earlier sometimes so that I can wrap my mind around things and ask questions before things are set in stone.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, but remember that not all employees are clones. Reward those that follow the company values and work hard, not just because you like them.

    Cons

Low base salary for role, micromanagement, and degrading to sales staff

    Advice to Management

Get rid of middle managers, offer better training, offer a higher base salary and you won’t have 80% turnover each year.

    Pros

Some of the people in the office were nice, but others were not, not much pros for working here at all. Giving a 1 star rating is being generous.

    Cons

The entire office! Management does not care whether or not you have an issue and you want to speak to them about it, they just throw it on the back burner and they leave it there. Everyone knit picks how you do things to get you into trouble so they don’t get into trouble. Every day walking into the office you have to pull the knives out of your back because people always toss you under the bus. Toxic environment. Never any recognition, always what you’re doing wrong. The drama is horrendous, just like high school all over again. It’s supposed to be a mature professional office, but it is most certainly not. I don’t recommend anybody working here.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff! If they have a problem or anything at all, LISTEN. You’re pushing your staff right out the door.

    Pros

    Can’t think of any pros

    Cons

The micro management and cancerous environment brought about at the mid management level made the environment extremely toxic.

    Advice to Management

Bullying is against the law and bullies should be dealt with. There was lots of growth opportunities due to the high staff turnover. Live by the core values!!

    Cons

Management does not back employees especially at times when they should. Always feeling like I am a terrible employee or worried I will get fired for not meeting sales goals

    Advice to Management

See your employees as people first instead of as expendible sales tools

I worked at Western Financial Group (Less than a year)

    Pros

There is literally nothing good about working here. Nothing at all.

    Cons

Low pay, understaffed to save the company money, excessive work load, expected unpaid overtime with no notice in interview or job ad, no leadership, catty and inappropriate coworkers, no hands on training, everyone there makes tones of mistakes, apathy abounds, extremely high stress, women dominated - gossip and throw you under the bus when you're barely even out of training, no ergonomic assessments, extremely high turn over, forced volunteering or donations to charity, extremely poor functioning software with no notes section and no history, notes are made on activities and it can be very hard to track down what happened on a policy, if the internet goes out you lose all the client files you were working on, have to triple your work by writing everything down on paper in case this happens then enter it in two places, complaints to TL and management are ignored.

    Advice to Management

Please quit and let adults manage the company.

I worked at Western Financial Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Work life balance and compensation

    Cons

The corrupt and political nightmare that is Head Office in High River. Employees live in fear due to lack of job stability and inappropriate behaviour of other employees and management.

    Advice to Management

Culture is set from the top down and since it's toxic, I suppose part of the solution is removing problem people from management. I would also relocate Head Office to a larger city where a larger pool of talent is available.
