I have been working at Western Financial Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good company policies. Good wages. Good training programs.

    Cons

As with all companies under restructuring - a bit unorganized, frequent changes

    Advice to Management

Keep closer eye on team leads interactions with staff

    Pros

There are no pros at this place.

    Cons

Management only cares about selling out the company. It's all about the push for more sales. HR is a joke when you have any problems and there is virtually no support. Stay away from this company, you'll thank me later.

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Pros

Interesting and challenging job, many good people, adequate benefits

    Cons

Total focal is on numbers. Upper management completely out of touch and unapproachable. Lower management relies on bullying tactics.

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with your employees. Drop the 'everyone is replaceable' philosophy and really try to engage your employees. They are the face of your company. Work with lower management to bring out the best in your employees rather than trying to slot them into pigeon holes. Focus on customer focus as that will bring in more business

I worked at Western Financial Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Money is there (after year 1) if you truly grind it out.
    - Training is available at all times.
    - EB Department is a solid group of people, all willing to help.

    Cons

    - Monotonous, but that can be your perception. Little variety in responsibilities.
    - Not building long lasting relationships or managing accounts. Pure selling. Again, depends what you are looking for in that situation.
    - Industry itself is hard to be passionate towards.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Western Financial Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - IT Management is trying to make things better, we have never had a clearer picture of what we need to do and how to get there

    - Head Office is trying to bring fun back into the work place

    Cons

The management in IT is trying to make things better but it's easy to see that the business is disorganized, driven by pure sales and profit margin to try to even understand or bring IT to the table to better align. IT has clear strategic goals but we have no idea what the businesses goals are; or even what Desjardins wants from us.

Out CEO is leaving after 1 year, Desjardins just announced the sale of our pet company.. What / who is next? Seems like the ship is sinking and we are cutting our loses.

    Advice to Management

Sales is critically important but operational excellence will drive the profit margin and provide employees with a clear understanding of what is expected of them and when. The company needs better alignment.

I have been working at Western Financial Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The management at my branch is wonderful.
They motivate you to not only do better but to also expand your career.
No one is out to get you, everyone supports each other.
Missing a day is not ideal, however, management understands family comes first.
Many options to excel in the business!

    Cons

There are no challenges, other than what you put in your own way. Success is only achieved by an employee if they are willing to do the work.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice for management. Other than to say thank you for allowing people with no experience to have an opportunity to turn their lives around and start a meaningful career. The benefits and education opportunities provided are awesome. I love seeing companies invest in their people the way that WFG does!

    Pros

Dynamic company within the larger company structure of Desjardins with an active acquisition strategy and competent finance professionals.

    Cons

Strategy not clearly formalized / unclear in a non functioning structure with business leaders that do not set clear directions and no formalized decision making structures in place.

    Advice to Management

Recommend simplifying company structure and leaner organization with clear strategic direction and capable leaders.

    - current atmosphere negative and disengaged
    - few people stay around long enough to benefit from the bonus structure

    Advice to Management

    - dust off the guiding principles which made WFG strong angd put them back into practice
