      A great place to start

      Pros

WDS receives 3 stars because it is a great place to get established in the industry. There will always be plenty to learn, wiggle room for mistakes and the ability to move if you're motivated enough. This is a great place to pitch ideas and ask questions. The staff is overall friendly and are eager to teach.

      Cons

There seems to be an overall company mentality of "It worked then, it will work now," which, in part, keeps the company from progressing. Many of the company's processes are outdated and require needless manual work that other companies have streamlined in this day and age. Moving forward and improving processes is like fighting an uphill battle - The flawed and outdated systems set in place are completely woven into the company fabric. This, coupled with disorganization, improper staffing and understaffing, makes it impossible to revamp and update.

      Pros

Western Dental is a great place to build experience and has a great training program for business managers. The monthly bonus can be very lucrative.

      Cons

The business manager position can be very stressful at times with the amount of pressure to meet goal. Working with the managing dentist can become challenging depending on your working relationship.

      Insurance Biller

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great place to get your foot in the door and gain valuable experience as an insurance biller. You are assigned several offices and our responsible for submitting claims, tracing for payments, and resubmitting or appealing claims in order to finalize and resolve. Basically, handling the entire process of an insurance claim from beginning to end utilizing various tools and applications. This is definitely a great stepping stone if you eventually want to transition into medical billing but do not have any experience. Awesome leadership team who do their best to keep morale high and the work environment enjoyable. Wonderful down to earth teammates who are always willing to help or address any questions you may have. Job is fast paced and you're always switching between different tasks daily so the work day doesn't drag and have that monotonous feeling to it but zooms quickly by. PTO, VACATION, FLEXIBLE WORK HOURS, GREAT SUPERVISORS, MANAGERS & DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR!

      Cons

For the amount of work you do and the revenue this department directly generates for the company we are definitely underpaid and that's being compared to just industry standards now if you consider the state of CA and the cost of living yeah we are at the bottom of the barrel and that's the main reason for the amount of turnover. Everyone comes in learns the industry, soaks up the valuable information and practices taught and then moves on to better paying positions being offered by other dental or medical billing companies. Executive Management team changes often. High Turnover at office level. Front Office & Back Office training needs to be revamped. Executive team need to allow lower/mid level management the ability to counter offer to keep valuable, intelligent, hardworking individuals from leaving. IT needs to listen more and be less defensive as a lot of the applications do not interface and some of the processes that have been created to fix a certain issue ends up causing much more problems case in point, the process subscriber that now causes offices to do countless recalls to correct fee schedule errors.

      Great Stepping Stone Company

Aug 23, 2015 - Corporate Office in Orange, CA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

For the most part, all of the employees are awesome! Management however, that is a different story. Great place to grow your skills since this is a super fast paced company. What you would get in 2-3 years at another company, you get in 6-12 months with Western Dental. They offer professional development in terms of career growth; however, often times they just promote out of desperation because the turnover is so high. They serve all communities where they might not be able to get dental care otherwise. The company is growing which means more jobs.

      Cons

Management is always in meetings to talk about upcoming meetings and hardly has time to actually assist or engage with their employees (typically just in passing or a rushed conversation). The office employees are worked like animals and offered below average pay to do twice the work. Turnover is astronomical. There is no method to the madness. The benefits SUCK! The medical is around $150 every paycheck just for the employee...so you can just imagine what it would be for a family. The dental premiums are free if you select the Western Dental plan but you have to pay for your services when you are in the office just like any other dental plan...you HAVE TO go to a Western Dental. There is no 401K match, only 1 week of vacation that is accrued the first 2 years of employment. They offer RDA exam reimbursement but make it so difficult to utilize the program...there is a selection process. They allow employees to preform certain functions that they are not certified to preform. Overall...this company has a long way to go to become employee friendly.

      Pros

IF you're starting out this place is a great place to learn.\ Health Insurance 401k

      Cons

Stingy with salary. Tiny Raises. I was promoted twice, recieved a dollar total in raises. Horrible hours. Expect to work most/all weekends. Major disconnect between higher ups and employees in office. No help, sometimes 2 assistants and a doctor to see 100+ patients. Ortho Dept doesn't offer full schedule.
