I have been working at Viva Naturals full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Amazing leadership team (Infectious ambition, transparent and approachable) - We get to solve meaningful challenges daily - The people high caliber, they are smart, diverse, ambitious and positive - There is opportunity for career development in an interesting space (health and wellness) - Great office culture, freedom and flexibility on how you work - Strong company growth potential and opportunity to get in during a crucial time in its development

    Cons

    - Fast paced environment, can lead to high stress but they have done a good job of mitigating this with ample vacation time and the ability to work from home when necessary - So managers are still developing, given the high growth rate a lot of people leaders are developing into their roles.

I worked at Viva Naturals full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Learned new things FAST -There arent many layers of management, so direct access to decision makers was nice -Management tries hard to take feedback and improve on things -You can work independently for the majority of the day if you wanted to, theres lots of space -Lots of food options around the area -Feels good to work for a health food company

    Cons

-Didnt always see or understand how and why things were the way they were .. particularly around how they made sales , it wasnt openly shared -There are a few toxic people or ‘group’ that can spoil your experience if you let them -The walk from subway to building is sometimes brutal in the winter, it’s not directly above the subway

I worked at Viva Naturals full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Large office with many rooms to hide in. - Gym and showers. - Great benefits. - Full kitchen with provided food. - Easy to access office from transit. - Staff lunch once per month. - Some genuinely great people who organize fun events. - Large periods of autonomy to fully control projects and tasks.

    Cons

    - Company focus changes every three months, alongside role responsibilities and position relevancy. - Condescending management that uses ambiguous buzzwords as hollow motivation, while not understanding the labour required to complete tasks. - Importance of cutting costs drives decisions, resulting in failed projects, inferior products, strained relationships with clients, and overworked employees who are forced to take on many different responsibilities. - Final decisions that change many times over a project's life due to the above mentioned issues, resulting in constantly moving goalposts and substantially extended timelines. - When unrealistic goals are not met due to the failure to recognize the above mentioned issues, employees are blamed by management, positions are let go, and company focus re-shifts. - Lack of ambition to ascend among company or fix core issues due to the cyclical nature of the above mentioned issues, resulting in a culture of complacency.

    Viva Naturals Response

September 23, 2019Head of People and Culture

Thank you for providing your feedback, it is always welcomed and taken seriously at Viva. We see that you are a Former Employee and hope you took the time to share your concerns with your Leader while you were here. We do have a new Head of People and Culture who is dedicated to ensuring the culture at Viva is healthy and strong and have restructured leadership to include other areas of the business. In addition we have worked very hard on solidifying company wide goals that are much more concrete than they may have been in the past. That said, it’s important to consider that Viva is an entrepreneurial organization which by its very nature will have to move with the ebbs and tides of the marketplace. Often decisions are made that maybe everyone at all levels of the business does not understand but they are made with the best interest of the business in mind, we are working on being even more transparent. Being able to adapt quickly is part of what helps us to be successful in such a fast moving industry. It is also important that as we grow, we continue to communicate transparently and openly - we are all learning together! Best of luck in all your future endeavours.

Not perfect but I’ve seen much worse. You can tell they try. Sometimes disorganized and company wide communication could be improved.

    September 5, 2019Head of People & Culture

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We agree, we aren't perfect, yet! Moving quickly is part of the excitement of working in a rapidly growing company, we also recognize sometimes things move so quickly we may unintentionally miss opportunities to communicate as clearly with the team as we would like. Strong communication is very important to us, please reach out to someone on the Leadership or People and Culture team so that we can understand the gaps and address this issue.
