I worked at Vancouver Coastal Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Everyone seems friendly and the working environment is amenable. At least true when people are in front of you. Never has there been any stress. 9-to-5 with hour long lunch break and no one seems to care. Competitive salary at the start. 20 day vacation from year 1-4. If you want a job you can have for the rest of your life, this is the one.

    Cons

Slow pace. Unclear leadership. Extremely outdated tech. You will be working under incompetent people all the time, and with same-age underutilizes coworkers who just started their careers. Outlook is toxic. Once they have started the government transformation project and missed the deadline by a year, the environment is hugely toxic. None of your manager will be giving you a reference even if they said they were proud of you to your face. The managers are so petty they would harshly turn down any request for reference check. I have no idea why anyone in their right mind would do that. In a few years, you will either be able to jump to another industry, or get stuck in Great Vancouver Area healthcare, working in VCH, Fraser Health or PHSA. You are stuck unless you move early and wisely.

I have been working at Vancouver Coastal Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Supportive work environment, caring dedicated co-workers.

    Cons

Heavy workload, hopefully more positions will be funded for Community Nursing.
