    Incredible Employee Culture

    Pros

Whether you are a Valitas employee, or their business client, there is one thing in common: Valitas truly cares about you by taking an interest in your personal growth and professional development. Not only you are presented with plenty of opportunities to learn continuously throughout the program, but you are also empowered to take on responsibility to work closely with senior team members, as well as assist on a wide array of client-related projects and firm building activities. Valitas is a unique environment that can help unleash your true potential, while making you feel motivated and valued at all times.

    Cons

Although there isn't an established guide for some of the internal processes, this allows current employees to share their vision and innovative ideas with the rest of the team, while getting exposure to an entrepreneurial aspect of the job. The firm is evolving and growing rapidly, and not only you can witness its success, but you can also be a part of it by constantly taking initiative and demonstrating strong teamwork.

    Great place to learn

    Pros

    - Ability to work closely with experienced senior bankers - Client facing very early on - Ability to be responsible for client deliverables early on - Strong culture of innovation, which results in client deliverables that are far beyond what is typically done in investment banking - Meritocracy where hard work, innovative thinking and entrepreneurship are rewarded by accelerated promotion timelines and increased client exposure - Unique ability to be involved in the strategic positioning of the company, which allows employees to develop a wide array of entrepreneurial skills - Culture of perfection and accountability - Candid and immediate feedback - Smaller team so everyone is much more invested in growing your skillset

    Cons

    - Lack of formal training resources, however the firm invests in their employees by hiring external advisors such as Marquee to teach new analysts and critique work

    Awesome Learning Opportunity

    Pros

    - Competent and chill team with great culture and strong values - Great place to get hands-on experience with great responsibilities - The team makes you feel valued and appreciated with frequent performance feedback and ample learning opportunities

    Cons

The more effort you put in the more you learn, the flip side of that is it can sometimes become challenging to balance such a position with school and other responsibilities, however this is also a great opportunity for you to develop time-management skills

A Great Place to Learn and Work

    Pros

Valitas is a company that puts it's people and culture front and center. Paris is stern for sure, but he cares deeply about his employees and their learning and development. As far as I can tell, this seems to be the driving passion behind Valitas (aside from serving the private mid-market, naturally). He is upfront and transparent and treats all employees fairly and with class. Valitas is a place you'd want to work if you are okay with getting your hands dirty, working with a tight knit team, and taking on extra responsibilities usually not given to analysts and the like. Management has a wealth of experience that they are eager to pass on and enjoy doing so. No doubt investment banking has its extra hours, and you may perhaps add a bit more in this entrepreneurial environment, but Valitas keeps it fun and you on your toes.

    Cons

Doesn't have the same resources you'd find behind a larger more established investment bank, but that is the case for a boutique firm.

Great learning experience with an entrepreneurial environment and experienced leaders

Aug 11, 2020 - Investment Banking Coverage Associate in Toronto, ON

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Lots of responsibility - you take ownership for the work you do and are trusted with important tasks and given independence - You get to learn firsthand from industry veterans about M&A, advisory and financing processes and are exposed at all levels of a transaction - Lots of opportunity for upward mobility and working on different aspects of the business (from transactions, to origination to operations) - Amazing company culture and opportunities for improving soft skills/EQ - values driven team - Work environment that prioritizes learning, personal development and open communication

    Cons

    - As with most jobs in investment banking, long work hours can be a norm - Since it's a startup-like, entrepreneurial environment, prepare to wear many hats - Fast-paced environment with high expectations (if you're looking for something that's steady, always 9-5 and repetitive Valitas is likely not going to be a fit)
