        Pros

Toronto is a big multicultural city. University has a name.

        Cons

Payment is very low. Toronto is very expensive. 50k/year is lower than average here. Rent is very expensive and hard to find even. University is very cheap. They don't cover moving, don't cover your visa applications, don't even help with that. Immigration services are very slow in Canada. You always have to renew your Work Permit and Visa (separately). If you get Scholarship - most of the money go to the lab budget and University, it doesn't really increase your salary. The Postdoc is restricted by 5 years term, then you can became a Research Associate if your PI likes you. Also, most of the PIs are white bold caucasian men. Very few women or minorities.

In general, UofT is a good university.

            Cons

But for postdoc, it does not give postdoc a good salary and treat Postdoc as a student other than an Acadamic person.

                      Development Engineer

Had a peculiar 3-month interview with a scientific organization. Initial online presentation, followed by an unexpected in-person interview, still evaluated by the committee. Salary undisclosed; only relocation package mentioned. The team was satisfied, awaiting HR director approval, requesting references. 2-3 days later, before sending references, informed they chose another candidate. No response to emails; HR silent. Was I backdoor checked?

                      RFP Coordinator

I have a 5 year gap in my work history due to an illness. How do I explain this? I can't lie, SSD is on my background check as a previous employer. I am on it and looking to re-enter the job market and get off of it, but I understand it is a reason for employers to pause in hiring me.

                      Senior Associate

How do you interview for a position when you are under-qualified based on seniority but not based on skills? I currently serve as a senior associate for a reputable consulting firm, and I have an interview for an associate director position. However, I am just shy of the minimum YOE requirement included on the job application and relatively young (though I meet all of the other requirements). Any advice on convincing the hiring manager I am ready for a mid-level role?
