I worked at University College London full-time

    Pros

Top global university, city of culture, right in the centre of town

    Cons

    Expensive, expensive, expensive.
Tough to get academic career progression.

    Advice to Management

With respect to PhD students - more infrastructure to help students complete their thesis, not just to start it.

I have been working at University College London full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good stipend for a PhD
    Interesting projects to work with

    Cons

Sink or swim attitude from management
    Stressful work environment
PhD students seen by PIs as a cheap (free) labour

    Advice to Management

PhD and academic career can be much more than publishing papers. This is ofter forgotten by people who run programs.

I have been working at University College London full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They have recently allowed tenure track promotions all the way to Professor without need for research.

    Cons

Although rated very high academically, they do not integrate departments well, so it is still very silo based.

    Advice to Management

Suggest that they integrate research better; they are doing among the students in engineering with the new integrated engineering program.

I have been working at University College London full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

SO many. I have the most supportive supervisor, everyone in the lab is super friendly and likes socialising, and most importantly, this job is an amazing platform to go on and do further research because of the quality of the research and the reputation that UCL has. The campus is beautiful and has everything you need around it. I feel fully supported in my role, and my supervisor is very proactive in helping find further funding for whoever needs it.

    Cons

Some of the labs and equipment are quite dated - I know finding funding is hard but would be nice to have a bit of a revamp!
