      Pros

      • Some of your coworkers are fun to be around & make you look forward to going to work. • The travel benefits (if you manage to get on the packed planes) are good. • Travelling the world as your job.

      Cons

      • Continental management has poisoned original United management's way of thinking. • H.R. couldn't care less about you, the employee. • While technically a "pro", medical & dental are more expensive & cover less than ever before. • Some employees (flight attendants in particular) are VERY cliquish & can be those "bad apples" you hear about. • The pay is terrible & in no way matches what they post as paying (unless you're very senior & work specific positions). • The odd & sometimes long hours can be tough on your body. (Look up 'Non 24') • It's hard to eat healthy when your only food options are airplane food, or airport food. • You aren't a member of a "family" anymore. You're a number. And that's it. • There's no growth as a flight attendant other than gaining seniority (unless you transfer to a management position).

        Pros

There are a lot of smart people within the company and a lot of motivation to pursue initiatives that will improve the company and the customer experience. The travel benefits are nice (though not as valuable as they once were given the current load factors).

        Cons

Following the merger with Continental the opportunities to move between the divisions of the company are more limited and need to be aggressively sought by the individual if there is interest. There has also been a decline in the number of leadership roles (Director and above) which can make career progression challenging. The overall culture is still sorting itself out given last year's executive changes.

          Pros

Great culture of teamwork. Incidents in the last few years have been used as a pivoting point and management and workgroups are truly trying to make this the best place for our customers, the employees, and (of course) shareholders. Management treats me and my coworkers with respect and conducts regular listening sessions and company-wide surveys to gauge they are doing and what can be improved. Not only do they listen, they actually implement the advice they receive from the frontline employees. My position offers industry-leading compensation and benefits in many areas. Benefits that are unique to the industry include worldwide travel which is excellent if you're looking for adventure. Excellent retirement contribution from the company. I thoroughly enjoy working here and would recommend a career with United Airlines to individuals looking for a position in the aviation industry.

          Cons

United seems to have overcome the mistakes of the previous management team and is moving in the correct direction. That being said we have set lofty expectations for Wall Street over the next several years. I believe we can achieve these goals, but if we are not successful I believe it would be a true loss to United if the current management team is forced out.

            Pros

Flight benefits was the only thing good about United but standby can be annoying depending when you decide to travel

            Cons

Managers and supervisors can be very unprofessional and have no knowledge in what they are doing . Favoritism throughout the company , doesn’t matter how good of an employee you are you still won’t grow within this company unless you are friends with management . They don’t care about your mental health here and will write you up for any little thing even if you are sick you will get a point for it . Pay is very low and you will not get any type of raise here . You could’ve been here for years and still get paid the same as someone who just started . You will not have a life outside of United at all . Very draining and depressing. I would not recommend . Money hungry company who overworks their employees and does not appreciate nor care for the employees . Oh and if you are a minority be prepared to get treated low . During covid they did not follow protocols to keep employees safe . They waited last minute to follow ppe. So many employees passed away due to covid and none of the upper management cared or even acknowledged it . Sick sick . I’ve been so happy since I’ve left this hellhole and am blessed to have finally started a great career for myself .

Travel benefits and the ability to move within the company and learn the entire business.

              Cons

Impact of fuel prices, and the overall economy that impacts our jobs - this is in the airline industry in general and not specific to just United.

                  Pros

Flight benefits (though utilizing them is difficult if you can't travel at 6 am on Tuesdays). Lots of fun events related to company sponsorships. Working with colleagues and customers around the globe from different industries.

                  Cons

Lack of accountability -- you can have fun if you can manage to endure the mind-numbing lack of progress and innovation stemming from a complete desire to just want everyone to get along, and ensuing lack of accountability. It was really shockingly dysfunctional in that regard.

                      Pros

There are plenty of opportunities in the airline industry. I've been with the company over 10 years and wouldn't change the experience I've had . Great place to work.

                      Cons

The benefits for employee travel seem to be less and less of a perk anymore.

Free or reduced rate travel (if you are able to get on a flight) and good medical benefits.

                        Cons

There's a horrible corporate culture which promotes excessive executive compensation while doing everything they can to cut labor costs at the expense of the employee.

                      Alex L.

Applied for a job a few weeks back, got a call from HR yesterday morning about an interview next week. She mentioned she'd shoot me an email with all the interview details, but so far, my inbox is empty. Assuming I'll hear from her early next week, is it normal for them to expect me to show up for an in-person interview on short notice, like couple days?
