  3. "Weak Research Profile"

    3.0
Current Employee - Computer Vision, AI Scientist in Vancouver, BC

I have been working at UFV full-time

    Pros

It has a relaxed environment and most people like it because the salary is much lower than the regular universities.

    Cons

They became University but rarely the system and mindset have changed since college. There isn't any systematic support for research. Most programs only offer undergraduate programs. Politics in decision making plays a significant role which is rare for an academic environment.

I worked at UFV full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

number of sick days was the only good thing.

    Cons

Pay is horrible and increases every year are so minimal. Your job is not secure at all. Someone with a day seniority over you can bump you out and leave you with few positions to move to. Don't bother putting in an effort because it means nothing when you lose the position you excelled at.

    Pros

The are always the top employers in BC for a reason. They are truly awesome to work for and with. You contribution always matter s and every voice is heard.

    Cons

None. There are no negative that I have found besides the basic coworker issues that accompany every large office environment.

I worked at UFV full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Small class sizes, lots of good colleagues. Considerable effort has been made to enhance opportunities for research, but see below regarding teaching loads. Teaching excellence is supported.

    Cons

Heavy workload and heavy-handed management. Those on the non-academic side of the house have far too much power. Deans are the lowest level of management and their opinions are disregarded. Department heads are told to bring their faculty in line. Morale is low.
