      Pros

Love the work culture. One of the best I have worked in , I have previously worked in 2 of the top 5 IT companies worldwide. But Tucows definitely outshines the previous companies. Values the employees and has a great work life balance.

      Cons

None that I can think of.

      Pros

It's a great company, probably one of the best in Toronto. It's certainly the best one I've worked at. I've been here a few years and have seen the company mature in many ways. There's lots of great things but the ones that I feel are the most important for me are the following: • great colleagues - very smart and ambitious people work here, and they actually enjoy what they do; if you're someone who puts in minimal effort you will not enjoy working here I guarantee it. • amazing learning opportunities - again, there's an education fund, in-house learning team, conferences and lots of resources available for professional growth. People are encouraged to take advantage of them and they are great! • solid benefits and perks - really good coverage, pretty decent provider, massage days, mindfulness training, you name it. • snacks and free food days - this one is a personal favourite. • flexible hours and work from home days - pretty self-explanatory • overall, genuinely nice people! If you're the kind of person who loves collaboration and openness you'll fit right in. If you're the type of person who would rather work alone and get annoyed when someone sneezes within earshot this place might not be for you. • really great work-life balance - I can't stress this enough, so many places encourage people to work themselves to death just to prove something, but this place is about finding that balance where you are productive but still have down-time to enjoy your life. This is important for so many reasons.

      Cons

Honestly the only downside is the office space that feels dated and stuck in the 90's. In terms of facilities the company has outgrown the space, offices are in short supply for meetings or conferences. Also, I should note that Customer support has a fairly high turnover rate because most people don't treat it as a longterm career, so there's definitely a cultural shift there. But many people have transitioned from Customer support to other roles within the company and have been here for years, so it's a great starting point!

      Google-esque but without much control

      Pros

The people are amazing. The work culture is Google-based - shoes off, patio BBQ, foosball, social teams, and TONS of snacks. Very relaxed attitude to creativity and personality. Quick to promote and recognize talent, open communication between management and staff. Good at targeting weaknesses and actually helping the employee to improve. Flexibility to choose your hours and to work from home. Excellent work-life balance for those who maintain several extracurriculars. Again, can't say enough good things about coworkers. Friendships are maintained outside of office hours, and I've even seen a few relationships bloom!

      Cons

This is a small company that is rapidly expanding and doesn't quite know how to. It's trying to keep small-business practices but needs to change its management operating systems to account for fast growth and change. Great for the company, less so for the management, even less for the employees who catch the brunt of the management's stress. The growth that the company is experiencing is leading to a few communication errors between upper and middle management, and the employees get the short end of that stick. There's a lot of stress as the number of customers grows and the number of employees stays the same. Training is an area that can definitely be improved upon. Not a lot of the training was actually applicable to the job, and the training was done by an outside hire who had zero experience in the actual job.

      Pros

      - Incredibly chill environment - For the most part very friendly co-workers and just good people - You are accepted for who you are and feel part of the community - Amazing work-life balance - Great benefits, vacation time and ability to work remotely - Strong support of personal growth and side projects - Understanding and carrying managers who are your friends and mentors - Best place I have ever worked at. If I ever want to switch jobs, I will have a tough time due to extremely high expectations and employer vetting process across many verticals. Tucows has ruined me :)

      Cons

      - General disorganization of most departments, but there are signs that this has been noted and steps are being taken to streamline many processes - Suffers from a big corporation syndrome so things don’t move as quickly as within a start-up - Certain processes are a bit outdated, but the company is slowly making progress in the positive direction just like with disorganization - Communication between departments is very poor. Things have improved overtime due to personal efforts of certain individuals, but not as a general company direction coming from top management

A great place to work and learn

      Pros

A good environment to learn and add skills to the ones you already have. Not a lot of micro managing, they trust that you know what you are doing. Very friendly staff and upper management, a family feel, very supportive. There is always something new to learn and embrace. Education fund. Lots of vacation time. Relaxed but work hard environment. Good work/life balance, very respecting of challenges that come up at work and in personal life. A lot of good, talented people work at this company.

      Cons

Communication between departments could be better, there is a lot of break down in this area and if communication was better issues could be resolved quicker and more efficiently. It is starting to get cramped in the office for space, it can be distracting to focus and challenging at times moving around the office.

Comfortable place to work with a great employee culture

      Pros

Work-life balance is wonderful. Most of the bosses are fantastic, open and inviting. Employee culture is super friendly and inclusive, and as involved as you want it to be without being pushy. The starting amount of vacation time is decent. The readiness to supply needed equipment is good. Flexible hours, and being able to work from home is a really nice feature.

      Cons

Teams work in almost complete isolation from each. Micromanagement has decreased recently but still needs some improvement. Needed empty or new positions take too long to fill, often forcing employees to work too quickly causing quality to suffer, or put off needed tasks. The open floor plan is horribly distracting and loud, and space is too cramped after recent growth. Benefits package leaves much to be desired.
