I worked at Toronto Hydro full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - didn't have to bring work home most of the time - flexible hours / work from home policy

    Cons

There was no job security which is not what most expect from a government-like job. The management and department had changed so many times due to multiple lay-offs and firings. This was very disruptive to the progress of the projects as there would be a lot of time spent on training new employees. This caused a division between the managing team and the rest of the department, on top of a low morale. There was a lot of office politics. Those that were isolated / not close to the managing team had a high risk of being laid off. It was unfortunate and frustrating to see. The work itself was also dissatisfying as the job description vs the actual work was different. The dept had to unexpectedly move locations which was inconvenient. Micro-managing was common which felt like there was no ownership or trust in my own work. I ended up quitting due to all the above. Found out later that the managing team were fired.
