I have been working at Tom Lee Music full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The retail and store staff at Tom Lee are amazing. They support each other and understand the struggles and overwhelming pressure put on us from upper management and ownership. Store staff have always worked as a team to make the best of the situation.

    Cons

The way this company is run is completely insane. Everyone is always afraid of losing their jobs as we are constantly told we are not worth the amount we are being paid. Staff are told they are easily replaceable and if they don't like it they know where the door is. Suggestions are ignored and staff are often reprimanded for speaking up. Pay structure has not changed since the 90's so the majority of staff are making minimum wage. This is not a company that invests in its people. You will constantly be reminded about how you don't matter and how you are only worth the amount of money you are ringing through the till.

I have been working at Tom Lee Music full-time for more than a year

    Pros

None, too many cons that makes this place horrible.

    Cons

Company is cheap. The represent the most luxurious and expensive pianos in the world and pay their employees very poorly. There is also no HR department so if you have anything you need to go to HR about, you are pretty well SOL. If you do complain, you are seen as a problem and they will find every excuse to let you go or threaten to fire you. I have seen it happening on many occasions. Employer is also discriminating towards cultures who aren't of an asian/chinese decent. You are required to work 50-70 hours a week and you do not get compensated. No vacation or benefits for 1 year. no opportunities to advance or get a raise.

I worked at Tom Lee Music full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

DISCOUNTS! Guitars! Gear! Generally awesome customers! Generally awesome coworkers! Store managers are super cool!

    Cons

Discounts only apply after a whole year of working there. Pay is terrible. Commission is terrible. Corporate management is awful. Pay is $1000 a month salary, plus commission (which is variable, but averaged around 3% of the selling price). Optimistically, you'd have to sell over $44,000 a month to make a penny more than minimum wage, and well over $100k to make the living wage of $20 an hour, which is a near impossible target to hit in Victoria. And as far as I know, the pay hasn't changed in the 5 years since I worked there.
