I have been working at TinyCo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

+ Some great co-workers who genuinely try to make the most out of poorly scheduled projects, insane demands and zero resources + Snacks in the kitchen and catered dinners + Location

    Cons

-Absolutely no interest in making anything that isn't a template of a f2p builder. All projects that tried to break away have been sabotaged by upper management and then all blame was shouldered off on people who have left, or even worse third party partners. -Upper management has effectively chased away all experienced talent away from the studio - from producers, engineers to designers and continues to distrust every hire. -No real experienced development talent, outside of a few handful of developers, exists in the studio anymore as they have all but quit. -Lots of politics. The irony from recent positive reviews comes in the form of upper management/ PMs playing the game and claiming it doesn't exist. Depending on the department or role you have in the studio - don't be surprised to be asked to withhold information from key individuals in some sort of sordid powerplay. -Any difference in opinions will result in your work or you being marginalized. -Non-existant / infrequent 1-on-1s depending on the department. There doesn't appear to be any sort of career plan in place. -No HR department. Feeling harassed at work? Need somebody to complain to? Tough. Keep it to yourself or your manager if you trust him/her, otherwise it could be used against you. "It's a startup" is a frequent excuse for: lack of structure, poor planning, poor attitudes from management and pretty much anything the studio fundamentally needs in order to function properly.

I worked at TinyCo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Dinners, large snack kitchen, happy hours. -Genuinely fun talented people. -Business dev brings in high quality 3rd party IPs to develop into games. -High turnover means someone new to games can easily get an entry level job here. Word of caution: leave before you think the entire industry operates this way!

    Cons

-Game development pipeline is a disaster. Half of the middle and upper management employees don't know how to make a game, nevertheless a quality one. -Since the pipeline is poorly managed, developers have to put in a lot of unnecessary crunch. Employees who work really hard and leave at a normal time are intimidated by management about their 'dedication' to the company. -Any original gameplay ideas are quickly thrown aside in favor of making the exact same FTP city builder over and over and over again. -Employees who try and suggest how to make things better, even if they come from a good-hearted place, are brow-beaten and treated with suspicion. -Employees who fall from favor are actively treated horribly until they quit. -Random individual layoffs happen very frequently, with little to no explanation why. Moral is very tense, and this is actively being used by management to pressure developers into doing extra hours and putting off raises. -Raises are non-existent, even to employees that have been there for years. There is no system in place to reward employees for investing themselves long term in TinyCo. -Developers, especially artists, are severely underpaid. Artists are being offered salaries at the rock bottom of their market value, then are openly mocked by HR when they object. -CEO doesn't trust the talent he hires to make good products, micromanages. -There is a peer bonus system in place, originally created to reward people who do exceptional work. Now it is strictly abused by upper management to be only used as a way to unfairly compensate people who are (sometimes forcibly) working unpaid overtime.

I have been working at TinyCo full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-always on the lookout for new people so a great place to get started in an interesting and fun industry -Really fun IPs to work with -The Business Development team at this company is really impressive. They keep getting great opportunities for TinyCo to work with. -So many great people work here! -There is a lot of work to be done so you can get involved in a variety of things

    Cons

-Fires people regularly without communicating it to the remaining staff. (Someone will eventually ask, "Where is so and so?" then, after some awkward glances between upper management, someone will admit "they were let go") (This has happened to 3 people over a 6 month period) -There will be no discussion as to why people were let go, leaving the office open to gossip and suspicions that there wasn't a just cause (there can't be just cause if they can't give a reason right?) -People who fall out of favor (even those that have worked at TinyCo for a long time) will be pushed into a corner and given a terrible job title until they leave. (I have been at the company for less than a year and this has happened to two people) -People in management positions have little management experience or training which makes it difficult for their staff to do well (of course they only blame the staff, not the management when people "fail")

I worked at TinyCo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Tons to do, especially if you're lower down the pecking order - Learn a lot within a short duration - Good set of people who are ridiculously talented - Open door policy, or rather, no door policy - Definitely trying to be better as a company

    Cons

    - Upper management 'encourages' the implementation of ideas from other games without checking whether it's even apt for the game - Too many people higher up with too little gaming experience to call the shots - Sometimes imposes unrealistic deadlines which ends up being a black mark against the 'minion' rather than the management

    I worked at TinyCo full-time

    Pros

The people. You will meet some wonderful people at TinyCo. There are also snacks and dinner if you work late. Great insurance benefits.

    Cons

Extremely unprofessional work environment. Everything is chaotic and disorganized. The company ignores huge internal morale issues. Upper Management has zero interest in Gameplay and User Experience. There is zero employee autonomy here. All products are clones. Compensation is far below industry average.

I worked at TinyCo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Free Dinners - Quality people at the lower levels of the organization - Talented Engineering, Art, & Product Teams - Upper Management has at least admitted to many of their shortcomings

    Cons

    - Upper management hasn't spent the time learning how to manage. Trying to catch up, but costing good employees in the meantime. - Companies direction changes about every 6 months - CEO micro manages and can't scale to run a company of this size - Recent inability to actually ship games - Promotions were almost non-existant for years until recently - Too many levels of organization for such a small company. 5 levels of Product, 3 levels for Art, etc. - Hours are ridiculous even for a mobile gaming company. Colleagues at similar companies laugh at the number of hours required by most employees. - Steadily bleeding employees and morale at all time low

    I worked at TinyCo

    Pros

Great art folks, late night dinners and snacks and happy hour times.

    Cons

Upper management has this "fratboy" mentality, So many unnecessary drinking parties. Very stingy with raises no matter how hard you work for the company. They don't have an idea with what they want creatively or what kind of identity they want for the company. Tribal mentality amongst workers, it almost has a high-school mentality of socialism. Mostly young, very few people with many years of experience. People's ideas are shot down just because they don't meet the company's status quo and instead will only go with what works with other companies or whoever kisses up the fastest

    Pros

*The people that aren't part of upper management. Absolutely incredible, everyone was so close and bonded well. *Daily Dinners *Lots of Happy Hour events

    Cons

*Upper management which specialized in SELF interest and less about recognizing the people who REALLY do the work. *Management continues to Micromanage issues which ruined any sort of actual work efficiency. *Salary is a toss up, you have folks who get paid extreme amounts for their first job than you have senior level employees getting paid way less than they should.

I have been working at TinyCo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of the people are great, nice, extremely talented and work soooo hard

    Cons

Upper management is unexperienced and horrible at what they do , the PMs have little to no experience outside grad school and have overly inflated titles and EGOs to match. All they're looking to do is monetize, but they don't even do that well. No bonus structure. No leveling. No career development or growth except for a very select few. Hires outside the org instead of promoting within (again except for a select few)...

    No Opinion of CEO

I have been working at TinyCo

    Pros

    - There are a handful of genuinely good people at TinyCo who are passionate about making a good, high quality games. Unfortunately, none of them are in a position where they can bring about significant change. - Good benefits. Health/Vision/Dental all taken care of. Free dinners and snacks.

    Cons

    - Almost all departments within the company are stretched extremely thin and hiring is extremely slow or frozen. Many games simply lack the resources needed to be high quality. - Depending on what department you join - your pay can either be very competitive or extremely poor. Regardless, it is very difficult to get promotions or raises. - Several members of upper management are poor communicators, who are highly inexperienced, unorganized, and extremely lacking in knowledge of their own field of expertise. Their poor leadership abilities cripple the company and prevent it from growing into the truly dominating force it could become.
