I have been working at The Running Room part-time

    Pros

Flexible hours - good for full time students
    Staff discount
    Friendly customers (generally)

    Cons

    Minimum wage
Area managers and upper management do not understand social media marketing, are old fashioned and thus their main target is middle-aged suburbia

    Pros

    - Amazing community spirit
    - Very rewarding helping customers become healthier
    - great opportunity to fulfill running goals while working
    - good perks from suppliers

    Cons

    - archaic technology - the computer platforms are clunky and out-dated

    - no budget for fun activities for run club staff often have to spend their own money.
    - very ‘head office’-centric

    Advice to Management

Invest more and update the tools that employees have to work with. Create an incentive program to recognize hard work.

I have been working at The Running Room full-time

    Pros

I am a runner. I love group running, inspiring people, being inspired by people, sharing tips and tricks. The free product for managers(shoes, clothing, accessories) is AWESOME. The discounts are great, my team is great.

    Cons

The CRAPPY salary. The unspoken volunteer hours that you are expected to do. With the rise in minimum wage, I don't make very much more than everybody else with all the responsibility.

    Advice to Management

    Pay the managers more!

I worked at The Running Room full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Discounts was great. Customers are always great. The part time staff was always loyal and fun to work with. It’s a pretty easy job.

    Cons

No real HR. Area manager has to play the role of HR as well as events coordinator. Upper management (Head Office) are not allowed to be contacted. Manager that I worked for was an unfair bully. Brought this to AM’s attention several times and the problems was never resolved and I was told to just except it, because that’s and who he was. There is no real advancement after becoming a store manager. The pay is aweful, you have to volunteer at events, and on top of it, try to make it mandatory to show up. If you don’t show up, it is frowned upon, and you get questioned as to why you didn’t show. The list goes on and on

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to assistant managers, after all, they are the eyes and ears of the store. Listen to staff when they are being bullied and so the right thing instead of ignoring them. And do some investigating about problematic stores. Visit ALL stores more regularly, not just the ones that do well.
