    I worked at The Hartford

    Pros

Flexible work hours, work from home full time.

    Cons

Too much emphasis on numbers and little focus on people and their worth, far too many metrics and use of metrics that have no bearing on what the actual work the desk entails, metrics used to ‘rate’ your ‘performance’ mean nothing and make no sense, far too many senseless meetings, management with little experience and has never done the actual job, not enough autonomy, too much red tape around doing the job/little authority, too many spreadsheets and attention to numbers, unreasonable work load that forces you to work over 8 hours, paid time off is really penalty time out, little interest in developing talent, extremely small chance of getting into other roles, if you decide to work here plan on getting questioned about your decisions daily and constantly explaining why you did/didn’t do something, getting your work nitpicked at, being scared to speak up if you disagree and overall just an awful, backstabbing environment that has a mentality of numbers only- and people are also just numbers.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Competitive pay and benefits, endless opportunity for advancement, some work from home flexibility, widely respected industry leader, outstanding training

    Cons

Annual "budget crisis" every Q4. Very modern software but antiquated hardware (my "new" laptop was a 2 year old refurb and the telephony system is terrible). Very politically correct environment with left leaning undertones

I have been working at The Hartford full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are really positive and professional, even management. You have a lot more flexibility than most places so work life balance is great. They really listen to your ideas and concern and make changes. Work from home opportunities

    Cons

Call volume goes from crazy busy to slow and a lot of time they are begging for overtime when it is not busy.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The Hartford, overall, is great. Great benefits and strong bonuses. Work from home and company car.

    Cons

Employee morale is low in Risk Engineering. If you voice your concerns, regardless of professionalism, you're told how you're wrong and your voice is ignored. Metrics are said to "bring value to our customers", but they really don't. It's a facade for upper management. Short-term vision and silly metrics make for a culture of fear that has been cultivated. No focus on the customers is concerning. Tasks and "to-dos" are always added, and never taken away. Systems aren't good. When they make one fix, more issues arise. They push efficiency and tell us how to be efficient, but their micromanaging halts all efficiency efforts. High turnover has been abundant throughout the country, and there are no signs of that slowing down. Either drink the koolaid or get out. They seem to only show good responses on Employee Opinion Surveys. However, employees talk amongst one another and dissatisfaction seems to abundant.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great work/life balance (flexible work schedule, work from home opportunities, etc.) - Great benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k, etc.) - Great paid time off and decent maternity leave - High job stability and ability to progress if you apply yourself - Although definitely a "Corporate America" environment, the culture is very relaxed and inclusive

    Cons

    - Insurance companies are generally hard to get into and you may end up having to start in Customer Service (which is horrible & taxing) to get your foot in the door but if you apply yourself and prove you are an asset to the company (meet metrics, be a team player, become an expert in your role, etc.) you will be able to move on to a more rewarding/better fitting role. - Pay/compensation is lower than other insurance companies - Management tends to play favorites and can sometimes create negative environments (petty/immature/unfair) for your team but if you are not effected by that sort of thing at work you will be fine.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits, flexible with work from home if the circumstances require it, camaraderie among the staff, volunteer opportunities.

    Cons

If you are customer-facing just assume that you are going to be treated like a sweatshop call center employee. There is a huge problem with employee retention so there is a constant concern over what is going to happen if someone leaves- normally they do nothing. Customers and agents are entitled and verbally abusive. Compensation is low for the industry.
