I have been working at The Co-operators full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Corporate employees are valued beyond anything else.

    Cons

As an employee of and Advisor office, with 18 yrs with this company I can safely say that I no longer have any sense of value to The Co-operators. For the past 3 years I have been trying to interview for the most basic claims positions. The requirements of which are well below my experience level with this company. I have had at least 15 interviews with no offers and I have applied for at least 5 instances for a Personal Lines Claims Level 1 position. I have not been granted even one interview. Now it is understandable that when you have a PL1 position come up, several applications will be made, but to completely ignore the talent you have sitting in the Advisor offices is abhorrent. I even had a Claims Supervisor speak on my behalf to the fellow Claims Supervisor conducting the interview. Still nothing. I have been waiting a month. There will be no interview, again. This position was *flexible, and *virtual. I have worked virtually before, from a home office. My location should not be an issue. So why is it people in call centers who have been with the company <5 yrs or those that they find in recruitments fairs, better applicants than someone who has first hand experience for 18 yrs with the clients they serve? I am not so disheartened by my own company that I am looking elsewhere. You are going to loose someone with a long tenure and very in depth and advanced knowledge of the company. Simply because you can't see past my position or location in an Advisor office.

    Advice to Management

Someone from an Advisor office should not be held back simply because we aren't corporate employees. We are a very valuable asset to the company, one which provides the means to your jobs. Without Us, there is no You. Allow us to show you our great experience.

    I worked at The Co-operators full-time

    Pros

All the below pros are strongly dependent on your location's Agent
    - awesome benefits package
    - good starting wage
    - fantastic team members
    - supportive of education/licensing and training

    Cons

    - management is completely hit or miss as each location is individually managed and 'franchised' by the life insurance agent. They were typically in that position because they are go-getters and sharks, but they are not necessary any good at people management
    - annual wage increases were minimal if at all
    - very sales and revenue focused
