I have been working at The Co-operators full-time

    Pros

Excellent company to work for. Takes good care of customers. Good benefits and employees mostly have been around more than 5 years, some have worked whole careers with the company.

    Cons

Retail agencies/brokerages are run sort of like a franchise. So owner/managers of offices will have different ways of running the agencies. Some are good some are bad, but generally good.

I have been working at The Co-operators full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you can sell , money can be ok. Don't expect to be making 60-70k per year. Base salary and some commission depending on your contract.

    Cons

very outdate company. 0 room to grow. If you think you will ever get a job up or even get an office of your own, ha! you are drunk ! there is no set process whatsoever to grow or get into management team. In short, sale people stay in sale, I feel like we were NOT ALLOWED to get anywhere else. Super Stressful !

    Advice to Management

you need management ! you need new technology ! the industry is SOOOOO behind. Hire some young people to pump some fresh blood and ideas into the company. And yes, be humble to take a suggestion from ANY employee . NO CULTURE in the company except: if you are around 40+ and want to work for 40-50k , no education and want to do the same thing over and over , that's the company for you.

I worked at The Co-operators full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Corporate training is good, when you are given the opportunity to participate.

    Cons

I worked in an independently owned franchise office, where nepotism ran rampant and the work environment was extremely hostile. I was belittled on numerous occasions, in front of coworkers and clients. Management encourages you to tattle on your coworkers, thereby undermining any sense of team. I had many large policies stolen from me. I was not given any sick days and was paid significantly less than colleagues working in similar roles for other companies. Management discouraged me from pursuing external leads. Management wanted to be management in name alone, and when backup was requested they were no where to be found, but then reprimanded you when the decision you made was not to their liking.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps corporate leadership needs to have a stronger hand in what's happening in the independent agencies. When two agencies in the same city are paying their employees significantly different rates with the same tenure, there's a problem.
