I worked at The Beer Store (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Get to stay active and on your feet throughout the work day. POS system was easy to learn. Plenty of good people to work with.

    Cons

Customers can be difficult at times. Some aspects of the job, such as empty returns, can be dirty.

    Advice to Management

Update look and feel of the stores.

I worked at The Beer Store part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Homogenous group of personalities for employees
    - Everyday is unique
    - Company stands behind their employees right to not be abused by customers (within reason)
    - Get to discuss different beers (especially awesome for Craft Beer drinkers)

I loved working for this company (and am actually trying to go back!). There are days when it's super busy, and customers are jerks, and you're covered in the spit of a thousands mouths from peoples' unwashed empties, but it's an active, usually fun, fairly laidback place to work, and you get to talk about beer.

    Cons

    - Sometimes you smell gross (old beer)
    - Customers can be violent (especially if intoxicated)
    - Union environment means seniority over skill (you may be subjected to

    Advice to Management

    - More and better cameras covering all angles of the inside and outside of the stores in higher-crime neighbourhoods

I have been working at The Beer Store part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Colleagues have your back, especially when dealing with horrendous 'customers'. I work in a sketch area where we are constantly robbed, I trust the people I work with to help.

    Cons

Dealing with the rude, lazy, arrogant, collectors, alcoholics, druggies, robbers.

    Advice to Management

    None

I have been working at The Beer Store (More than 10 years)

    Pros

guaranteed hours as full time, some decent benefits, uniforms are paid for (as they're getting cheaper and easily wrecked)

    Cons

    everything else.
lack of working hours given to stores, employees run off their feet., irregardless of weather and increase in sales. Never able to catch up.

    Advice to Management

Straighten your spine and stand up for yourself and your staff. And don't leave us 2 hours earlier than scheduled, when you know we're busy....
It's not only your customers who should leave happy...Your employees need to leave their shift happy, if you want them to return happy and not dreading it. No wonder LCBO sales are increased.

I have been working at The Beer Store part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Incredible Pay (When you put in your time - Currently at 6 years - topped out at 4.)
    - Flexible Hours (I work full-time and use this as supplementary income - however would still like to advance)
    - Fantastic team environment (This varies from store to store however my current store is wonderful)
    - Ability to pick up extra hours when needed (You can work at any location for extra hours if you are asked)

    Cons

    - Great work ethic does not guarantee advancement. Want to move up however I can't guarantee myself to be available all the time because TBS doesn't guarantee hours/income - need to work full time elsewhere and it seems that the young part-timers have a better chance to move up because they can work 20 hours a week and don't have bills or obligations like those with families and mortgages
    - Lack of training in beer knowledge
    - Lack of practical customer service training

    Advice to Management

    - Recognize your employees that work their behind off regardless of their work status.
    - Improve customer service and product knowledge training.
    - Invest in employees to take Prud'homme or Cicerone.

I have been working at The Beer Store part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great job if everyone works together but this doesn't happen.
    Close to home.

    Cons

The manager at our location is having an affair with a low seniority part timer and showing favoritism. The said employee is arrogant because of this.
She is jealous when he speaks to other CRS and is demanding when she confronts people.

    Advice to Management

Manage your managers better. Be sure they are people managers before you put them in place.

    Pros

Great team of employees. Used to be a fun place to work.

    Cons

Management does not care about it's employees.
The culture of this organization was work life balance but over the past 2 years changes have resulted in a miserable workplace.
