I have been working at The Beer Store part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Unionized (could also be a con for some people)
    - earn up to $18 an hour after 4 years with the company (annual increases)
    - keeps you physically active
    - flexible hours
    - able to learn many tasks (open/close store, use machines, computer skills)

    Cons

    - if you achieve top seniority, may become very dependent on you (con if you have another job or are currently in post-secondary school)
    - Be prepared to hear customers complain about the price fluctuations of beer

    Advice to Management

Less movement of specific full-timers - equal transfers for all rather than continuing to move one employee multiple times.

I have been working at The Beer Store part-time

    Pros

    - Get the chance to work with great people who appreciate where they work and enjoy their position
    - Opportunity to learn about beer brands, inventory management
    - A team-oriented workplace, always someone around to help if needed
    - Paid training (reading the online training modules)
    - Friendly and respectful customers most of the time
    - Great manager who appreciates and communicates with employees
    - Pretty good part-time position compared to others

    Cons

    - Lack of hours as a part timer after summer, good luck with 5-15 hour work weeks
    - With the 5-15 hour work weeks, you will go from 12-15 hours per week to 5-9 hours with no consistency
    - Benefits, what benefits? No benefits as a part timer, little chance to become full-time to have benefits
    - You get great customers, you get the worst possible customers
    - Can become a dirty, smelly environment with the variety of empties you'll get
    - Inconsistent inventory placement, items in warehouse will move around frequently
    - Full-timers get priority over hours, newer part-timers will get the leftover scraps
    - Late nights, you may be working until 10:30pm
    - Aging IT infrastructure, in-store computers are over 10 years old

    Advice to Management

    - Show appreciation not just to full-timers but also to employees stuck with minimum hours and no benefits
    - Reinvest in your stores by improving infrastructure and cleaning facilities

I worked at The Beer Store part-time

    Pros

Honestly, it's really tough thinking of a good reason to work this monopoly

    Cons

-There are employees who have worked there for over 10 years and still haven't been made full time staff

    - New bargaining terms lead to lower wages and less incentives

    - disgusting work conditions handling used cans and bottles

-high potential for injury from repetitive motion

    Advice to Management

The Ice Cold Express store model is inefficient and falsely advertised. The stock room struggles to keep supplies cold when it's directly open to the main lobby and the main door keeps opening and letting the cold out.

I have been working at The Beer Store full-time

    Pros

If FT, benefits, pension, decent wages

    Cons

    Regularly working evenings and weekends.
Constantly understaffed for the amount of work that is expected to be completed

    Advice to Management

Keep your staff happy and they'll want to work hard for you. If an employee wants Tuesday nights off to have a life (playing sports, dungeons and dragons, or whatever they enjoy) give it to them instead of having the "I expect you to be available 24/7" attitude.

    Pros

Great summer hours - flexible and friendly management.

    Cons

Once the full-time workers come back from their summer vacation, all of the students and part-time workers have their hours reduced drastically. It is totally seniority based, so don't work there unless you're going to spend your life there.

    Advice to Management

Take students more seriously. You have no other choice.
