      Pros

TVO, under the previous CEO Lisa de Wilde, went through a massive transformational change from a broadcast organization to a educational media organization. Our new CEO Jeffrey Orridge looks poised to lead us into the digital future.

      Cons

      Cross department communication can better

      Pros

At its core, what it is supposed to deliver is great - FREE learning for people living in Ontario through documentaries, current affairs and education tools for parents, teachers, and students. Health/Dental benefits are pretty good. 3 weeks vacation to start. The office is in a good location.

      Cons

The work environment is incredibly toxic. The structure is unstable. Managers, directors, etc have created an environment of 'that's not my job, but it can't be yours either' to the point there are many tasks that no leader or team will take responsibility for so they all fall by the wayside and don't get done. Major projects are rushed and employees have to work around the clock to meet arbitrary launch deadlines which leads to exhausted employees forced to deliver a mediocre product because corners had to be cut to release on time for whatever reason. Then, the broken project doesn't get promoted to the public so when leadership sees the low numbers, they think that no one in the public was interested in it so they take people off the project to work on something else because it was clearly a failure so it's on to the next time waster. If you want to learn how TVO is doing with DE&I, compare the Work With Us page to the Leadership & Governance page. Both are on the new TVO.me website and not TVO.org but you wouldn't know that because no one told you. Also, take the time to Google the board members. Good to know who they are exactly because they have way too much control over the day to day of TVO. There are some leaders and some people who are fantastic, but many who are very much not. I won't say don't work at TVO, it can be a great stepping stone, but just be aware of yourself and your surroundings to get out before the culture breaks you if you happen to end up on the wrong team or before your skills regress too much from using outdated practices and technologies. There has been a mass exodus of wonderfully talented employees in the last year, with a great deal of them leaving with no new job lined up. You can choose to see this as a red flag, or as an opportunity for TVO to have a fresh start. But that said, a lot of those who are sticking around are lifers who do the bare minimum and refuse to grow and adapt to the changing world. They should have been let go ages ago but seem to have an internal immunity, so the talented people around them leave instead. TVO's idea of Mental Health Support is to make employees take 4-hour-long webinars that run through lunchtime. If TVO extends you an offer, negotiate. At a recent town hall, staff were told no one would be getting raises any time soon and to stop asking.

      Pros

Real changes are happening at TVO and the environment is so much better than it was a few years ago.

      Cons

There is still a little tension in the workplace as they iron out legacy technology and attitudes but the trend is looking positive.

      Pros

Some great people work at TVO. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) the great ones never stay long

      Cons

      - a mass exodus of wonderful employees and human beings leaving simply because of the current work environment and atmosphere at TVO. - mental health is said to be an internal priority but witnessed many senior leaders and executives swear at employees and other mind-blowing archaic tactics rooted in trying to motivate staff (still there as of 06/2022). On the mental health note, employees were forced to use their lunch breaks to complete mandatory mental health training delivered by individuals with no professional accredited mental health education what so ever. - Toxic work environment doesn’t even begin to describe the current working conditions - This was the least emotionally intelligent leadership group I’ve ever encountered. - TVOs tried and true fire people system: 1 - Fire everyone in targeted role to downsize (divisional “restructuring”) 2 - slightly change job description 3 - make everyone you’ve fired reapply for essentially the same job with fewer positions 4 - rinse and repeat. (This method has been used more times than I can count over the past 9 years. HR will let go people well into their careers and years away from retirement this way.) - Diversity Equity and Inclusion work has been a joke. Completely token. A constant failure on this initiative. - Administration does not respect collective bargaining agreements

      Pros

One of the best experiences I’ve had in my career simply because of the people I got to work with and lead. The people hired at TVO had attitude of being helpful, honest, caring, empathetic, compassionate, and committed to the people of Ontario. They strived to promote an culture of continued learning and servant leadership. The job itself was meaningful to delivering content and service to the people of Ontario.

      Cons

The salary range was not as competitive to other opportunities in the market.
