I worked at TSC Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing colleagues - really a team effort and everyone is ready to jump in and help out

    Cons

Senior management on the marketing side is really oblivious to time restrictions and process bottlenecks - also overrides most opinions with no explanation. Leads to a lot of work needing to be re done last minute and worse work from the employees because it ends up being rushed.

    Advice to Management

Start asking your entry-mid level employees what actually matters to them - they make your business run. Without them you wouldn't be able to do much let alone but together 6-10 flyers (your main business driver) together in advance.

    Pros

Customers and staff. Pay was ok. Good work /Life balance.

    Cons

Scheduling budgets are set too low. Cold use more staff on the sales floor. Too much for the management to do. They have to work the sales floor due to not enough staff and get their duties done on time.

    Advice to Management

Need more staff in the floor to serve the customers and work the stock and do seasonal sets.

I worked at TSC Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

customers are regulars, very friendly and laid back. Very quiet store if you like that.Hours are not as late as some retail stores have.

    Cons

Never enough staff. No raises.Stock often arrives so dirty, ordering is way off too much of things they don't need and not enough for the farmers. Focus is on little things and not important things, like 15+ lights blown out, huge holes in the floor, broken doors ect...

    Advice to Management

Most Dep. managers get there because no one applies so they bump up some part time person to management with no experience. Managers are treated badly by the DM.

    Pros

Company has grown from 14 stores to 50 in less thank 10 years. Done amazing in merchandising and plannogram set up. Product innovation seems to be improving constantly and still keep the loyal customers happy

    Cons

Communication needs to improve amongst home office and stores . Buyers should get into different locations on a monthly basis and see what's really happening in the stores

    Advice to Management

    Answer your phone !!!!!

    Pros

People were always great to work with

    Cons

Too much sugar coating the stores for home office visits. Tons of payroll thrown at the store for a visit. Very little payroll available throughout the course of normal daily operations. Questionable business practices with pricing (ie,reg price of various products raised a week or two before a sale and then put on sale at the former regular price) Big Fall sale should have had a full blown staff for the level of sales for the first day, but have only a few extra hours allowed. Lineups to the back of the store consistently throughout the day is just not acceptable....constant complaints (also many on FB page) I left for these reasons...to sum up...If you care about true customer service, and how a store looks, then TSC is definitely not for you.

    Advice to Management

Review operations from the ground up...starting with customer service (focus groups...) make surprise visits to stores to find out what stores are really like. Labour $ need to be given to store managers because it's just ridiculous. This is coming from someone with 25 years exp in the business.

    Pros

nice coworkers -- most are willing to go above and beyond but sometimes you people at Head Office ask too much.

    Cons

Stacy Miller needs to come into a store unannounced -- the district managers throw all kinds of payroll at the store when the threat of Stacy Miller is there. Stacy needs to really see what no payroll does to the look of the store. It is very frustrating trying to get people to come in to clean it up on a moments notice --- people just don't work like that.

    Advice to Management

you need to get real with the District Managers -- they are not telling the truth about store level -- they are sugar coating for their higher ups - store morale is getting worse -- customer satisfaction is horrible -- have you looked at the TSC Facebook page -- someone really needs to take care of the social media end of this company -- it is 2016

    Pros

progressive with Flex time at corporate; some good employees with bright futures

    Cons

short-term vision has brought TSC to the point where morale is extremely low in each department and the stores are left out to dry

    Advice to Management

start investing in the company more aggressively
