Great culture, not so family friendly hours

    Pros

TD does put their employees first. There is an excellent benefits package that includes stock options, pension options and great health benefits. They have taken COVID very seriously, I have been off for 4 weeks and am still receiving my salary with no expectation of working while in quarantine. With the extended hours you have the potential to maneuver your schedule to meet different obligations. They are pushing work from home.

    Cons

Like all banks it is sales driven, it does not matter if you hit your annual targets in the second quarter you will continue to be pushed to do more. I personally do not need to be pushed so I find it a little aggravating as I am self motivated but being in the industry so long this is a normal practice. The schedule is hard for parents. TD has extended hours and as such you will be expected to work evenings and weekends. Due to business needs you may not have a set schedule and it only needs to be published 2 weeks in advance. They are pushing work from home, I personally like being in a branch. Some branches have shared offices

The work you put in will never match what you're paid in retail banking

May 14, 2021 - Financial Sales Representative in Mississauga, ON

    Pros

    - great co-workers - competitive pay for tellers - great benefits

    Cons

    - overworked and underpaid - no work/life balance - management does not support you vs. the customer - they care more about money than the customer (extremely sales driven) - not flexible with schedules - decisions are made by people who don't work in retail and they don't have a darn clue how anything in retail works - sales goals will continue to increase even if 1) you're in a pandemic 2) people aren't spending as much money 3) virtually anything. your sales goal will always increase and the external environment is not factored into this increase.

Psycho Bosses ruin otherwise great corporate culture

    Pros

Mostly positive corporate culture, lots of gatekeeping on advancement and promotions but honestly usually puts the right people in the right positions. Largely positive about almost everyone I worked with. The sales-first environment unfortunately promotes some people to management that are basically narcissistic sociopaths and you can see this with some executives as well. Generally really good but underpaid people.

    Cons

Always nice seeing your managers have sex with their vice presidents and succeed but turn around and gate keep other peoples' success based on how much they like them versus the actual on-paper performance. Less pay than competitors, but less turnover. Very high compliance requirements which based on my recent experience at another FI is a good thing - but not for everybody. Does not put its money where its mouth is when it comes to environmental responsibility. Does a lot of green washing but still funds intense amounts of oil and gas investment. Has a Suncor executive on their board. Has some career morons on their board.

    HIGH GOAL

Mar 16, 2021 - Financial Advisor in Toronto, ON

    Pros

    good company culture, good benefit

    Cons

Very high sales goal and pressure non stop. You cannot really rest even you went vacation as your sales goal is still there. Even you worked very hard and finally achieved one quarter's goal, when next quarter came, everything is back to 0 and you need to start again. You need to review your sales outcome in everything weekly with your manager. If you cannot perform, you will feel very stressful. Needs to be good to sale both investment and mortgage products as well as make referrals and get good customer review. Good support from internal regarding the work procedure and products. Overall good company and you can learn a lot if you can handle the big stress.
