I have been working at Suncor for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people are amazing and respectful. The environment is supportive. The values are safety. There are TONS of opportunities at Suncor and they encourage and help you try new roles to round you out and find what you like best. Suncor is really a wonderful place to work.

    Cons

Some sites are remote and require a fly-in-fly-out shift schedule. It can be a lot of traveling and working away from home can be tough. Fly-in-fly-out employees receive an additional bonus

I have been working at Suncor full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great place to work, many different opportunities for career path, easy to move within organization, great pay compared to competitors and fair evaluations. Company has seen success even in some of the toughest years, and has a very loyal employee base. Lots of subject matter experts, high tenure employees and flexibility for work life balance.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic, middle and senior management heavy, heavy on processes and opportunities to streamline especially with decision making. Missing the mark on engagement especially for younger generation, could spend a little more time on succession planning for front line leader levels.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on employee engagement, granting autonomy in roles and culture.

I have been working at Suncor full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Low risk business model, stable.... good for long term career development.

    Cons

    Inefficiency first-line or middle-line manager.

    Advice to Management

Put the company 1st, not yourself.... without this great platform, you are no-body. we all are part of something bigger.

I worked at Suncor full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    1. Good structure 2. Best Mentoring 3. Safe Work Environment with Safety as Priority.

    Cons

    1. Some process change as we transfer from one department to another. 2. Sudden roll out of new procedure makes it harder to stay on track on projects.

    Advice to Management

Please keep up the good work of enlightening student's experience

I have been working at Suncor full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lot's of great people and opportunity to move to different areas of the company if you are a self starter and motivated to make connections yourself.

    Cons

It can be very difficult to move up to a leadership position and leadership gets little to no training on how to be effective. The rating system depends solely on how much your leaders like you and whether they are willing to take the time to understand what you do.

    Advice to Management

Be more forthcoming with employees on their succession plans. Improve the employee rating system.

I worked at Suncor full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good total compensation package Ability to learn best practices and current knowledge in your field

    Cons

An awful toxic work environment with bullying, racism, sexism and much more. Protects long term favorites and loyalists regardless of their performance, skill set and behaviors. Sweatshop culture that you should be "lucky" to work for Suncor

    Advice to Management

If every person of color is the "wrong fit" or has "poor interpersonal ability", maybe the issue if your culture, not them. I can't wait for the day when I read about you being hit with a class action lawsuit like Texaco was in the 90s.

I have been working at Suncor full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Largest energy company in Canada, laid back front line workers, mostly good people you work with. Gain great experience in oilsands. Potential for great career oppurtunitites.

    Cons

Management always asks for more with less, unrealistic expectations. Department is too leaned out, employees are overworked as a result. Employees not fairly performance reviewed/lots of politics involved in determining raises/promotions. Company has an unofficial policy of not moving employees within Suncor out of Fort McMurray before 8 years of service in oil sands, can feel stuck in position/department and management...

    Advice to Management

Treat fort mcmurray differently as it needs to be, the city will never be like Calgary or Toronto no matter how much you try to make it feel. Improve work life balance for employees living in this region and let go of the leash you have on them in fort mcmurray, there is a lot of skills/expertise in your people that would still be beneficial to the company in other locations.
