I worked at Suncor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A company that truly wants to do its best. Environmentally responsible and good to its employees.

    Cons

Oil sands is a tough business and is constantly mis-understood. Suncor has the opportunity to be brave and share the good work it is doing. A lot of people have been there forever and aren't always open to new ways of doing things.

    Advice to Management

Tell your great stories of the triple bottom line.

    Pros

Safety is treated as a core value.
Great comp package and fair evaluation structure.
Great mentoring options and ability to get exposure to massive projects/portfolios.
Excellent top leadership (Dir & above)

    Cons

    Very top heavy.
Progression is age biased, expect to wait it out unless you opt to spend half a decade in Base Plan (F'mac)
    Lacking a healthy social culture.

    Advice to Management

Make progression performance based not age based.
Adjust band levels based on performance and not based on years of service.

I worked at Suncor full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, good time off with PTO’s

    Cons

Terrible work environment. Management in this area likes to keep the workers tight lipped and not use their voice to express themselves and use a Suncor value like a “Questioning Attitude” The Directors are like used car salesmen and have no experience in mananging the various business groups in Field Logistics.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who have skills in the area they are required to lead.
