"A Fake and Hostile Company - Do Not Be Fooled by the Fancy Window Dressing"

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Suncor full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Just the total compensation, nothing more, nothing less.

    Cons

Many to list. Incompetent middle managers who built their careers solely on kissing up and kicking down as they learned in their early career back in the 80s and 90s. Lack of skill and vision to compete in 2020 is blatantly obvious with the digital transformation. High school clique atmosphere. Treatment is solely based on who you are as a person, not a worker. Beyond the obvious race and ethnic background, trivial things like which quadrant of the city you grew up in and what your parents did as a career matter. Toxic and hostile atmosphere for visible minorities. Suncor makes no secret in their recruitment process internally that they look for minority professionals who are "easy-going" (aka docile), "will be content with what they get here" (will know their place and not expect to be rewarded like their white peers), "not uppity/arrogant" (won't go to a lawyer/human rights tribunal after we racially harass and bully them). It's not a coincidence that the few minorities that last beyond a couple of years are either early career out of school, imported at the end of their career from overseas into very specialized technical roles or very white identified Canadian minorities to round out the quota. No one else need apply. The new fancy Diversity and Inclusion program is 30 years behind and focuses on recognizing differences (which everyone with functional eyes already does). It does not focus on fixing Suncor's racist and hostile work culture. Just window dressing to show at the next tribunal hearing.
