I worked at Steve's Music Store full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Co workers are fun, but jaded. The Toronto location is on a fun street. They hired me when I needed a job.

    Cons

Commission structure is brutal great sales numbers result in poor wages. Management has little consideration for employees. They don’t expect much, they don’t get much. Old school business model, that considers customers and employees disposable.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Steve's Music Store full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very relaxed atmosphere. Fun to talk about and learn products. Most employees are like-minded musicians.

    Cons

Head office has old-world mentality of business. They fail to change with the times, or even analyze real current sales numbers and act accordingly. They do whatever they can to save money, while wasting money elsewhere, like hiring shoddy contractors to build/fix things in the shop.

I worked at Steve's Music Store full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Obviously a good place to meet fellow musicians, meet people in the industry and learn about gear. Lax environment with nearly no disciplinary measures (can be viewed as good but it is also very bad). The staff is laid-back and they are fun to work with. Every once in a while you get music-related freebies.

    Cons

Management is blasé and can get away with anything, including harassing female staff and even female customers. The pay is bad, raises are nonexistent and the insurance plan is a joke. The building in Montreal is falling apart, it was rat infested for a while (I'm talking about rats running between your legs while you're eating lunch) and it is dangerous.

I worked at Steve's Music Store full-time for less than a year

    Pros

people rarely care, leaving you free to basically do as you please. play the instruments, maintain the store, help customers or dont. The people with whom you work are generally fairly personable, musicians from all walks of life, though a lot of rockers tend to dominate the space for obvious reasons.

    Cons

lack of clear mission. management has conflicting agendas on projects and communication across the ranks is limited or non-existent.

I worked at Steve's Music Store full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great staff, fun atmosphere, good products to sell, great location, interesting customers and an interesting industry to be a part of. The product selection is the best in Toronto and prices are good.

    Cons

The company is poorly managed and nepotism runs rampant. Head office in Montreal is out of touch with the Toronto market and staff. Pay is lousy. There is a lack of advertising and marketing support to bring new business.
