Reviews about "work environment"

Pros
Good pay, steady raises, lunch made (need to pay for if not kitchen staff).
Cons
Work environment is very competitive, can be harsh. Benefits are only after a certain amount of days in the past 3 months, so very hard to obtain if you're working in banquets (hotel banquets die in the summer and January- March).

Helps you handle future stresses at the work place
Cons
There would be many: 1) Lack of stable management. 2) No standard operating procedures. 3) Advancement not based on previous experience but on the current supervisor. 4) Two distinct camps - Union & Management. Not working cohesively. 5) Band aid on problems, no long term HR solution. 6) Very stressful work environment. 7) Surprisingly inhospitable staff for a hotel.

Location, guests, co-workers, food and beverage quality
Cons
Profit over common sense, known hostile work environment tolerated, supervisors under managed & allowing significant and long lasting unethical behaviors. Most front of house uniform lacked functionality & looked silly. The latter was cited by guests on countless occasions and belied idea of "dressing to the nines".

Good entry to hospitality; tons of perks and lots of support and advancement opps

Great job out of college. Tons of perks, flexible schedule, awesome management and co-workers. Gained office and customer service experience transferable to my career. Also the Sheraton has fabulous advancement and training opportunities if you're wanting to make hospitality your career. My property isn't unionized like most Seattle hotels (a distinct benefit in my opinion) and had excellent health benefits, retirement, time-off, and travel perks.
Cons
Customer service can be stressful but having supportive coworkers and a good work environment helps. Sometimes in the busy seasons there can be long hours (but you get overtime pay); sometimes in the low season there's not enough hours (but the time off is nice). You need to be able to be a bit flexible in schedules...hotels are open 24/7.

Great place with a lot of growth opportunities

The company is an international company with a lot of opportunities to move around and move up. If one department does not seem to be a fit, you are able to move to a different position.
Cons
It is a very corporate work environment and sometimes leads to having to deal with mundane tasks. Not all hotels are owned by Starwood, so even though you work for the company, you still have to answer to the owners which creates difficulties sometimes.

Pros
Good career opportunities if you are patient.
Cons
Average work environment, no investment in training, poor pay, almost always understaffed as no one stays around for long when the competition offers the better packages. The merger with Marriott is slow and frustrating, things seem to take even longer than before. Very little communication and 'people first' was certainly not the case for many Starwood-legacy team members who had to leave whilst the Marriott guys sit comfortably in their chairs. Base lined salaries? Probably never happening.

Not a bad job honestly!!

-Good Pay. -Decent Hours. -Non-Mandatory Overtime. -You are able to "E.E" which pretty much is an "Leave With/Without Pay" (Depending if you have PTO) and it does come in handy at time to leave and it wont go against your time.
Cons
-Back To Back Calls. -Merging over with the Marriott at the moment and its not going so well, to many rumors are spreading and it makes the work environment at the time toxic!

Pros
hotel discounts for employees and immediate family members
Cons
The company does not hold under-performers accountable. A very "clicky" work environment; like being back in high school. I do not trust leadership to do what's in my best interest.

Pros
Lots of of growth and development opportunity World wide company allowing you to work for them just about anywhere Good benefits - health, medical, 401k great employee perks
Cons
It is a very large corporation, which can in turn offer different challenges for different people. Just know what type of work environment you need in order to succeed.

Pros
Well regarded hotel brands. Youthful and progressive culture relative to competitors. Broad selection of desirable locations to work. Opportunities for promotion if willing to move,
Cons
Constant management upheaval creating uncertain work environment and a culture of fear and disunity. Quick to layoff or restructure. Loyalty not rewarded....company comes first.
