Many opportunities to advance your career within the company. Good benefits and discounts.
Cons
Entry level management is expected to work long hours, which results in lower actual wage than the employees they supervise.

Good entry to hospitality; tons of perks and lots of support and advancement opps
Jul 31, 2010 - Front Desk Agent in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great job out of college. Tons of perks, flexible schedule, awesome management and co-workers. Gained office and customer service experience transferable to my career. Also the Sheraton has fabulous advancement and training opportunities if you're wanting to make hospitality your career. My property isn't unionized like most Seattle hotels (a distinct benefit in my opinion) and had excellent health benefits, retirement, time-off, and travel perks.
Cons
Customer service can be stressful but having supportive coworkers and a good work environment helps. Sometimes in the busy seasons there can be long hours (but you get overtime pay); sometimes in the low season there's not enough hours (but the time off is nice). You need to be able to be a bit flexible in schedules...hotels are open 24/7.

Working here was similar to entering your worse nightmare everyday

The pay is decent for the hotel industry. Ski passes.
Cons
Total lack of communication throughout the entire hotel. Long hours with no consistency in shifts and/or weekly hours. Incompetent managers on all levels. Ridiculous employee shuttle service. Laughable insurance. Frequently understaffed.

The grass is never greener
Sept 6, 2013 - Front Office Manager in Atlanta, GARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Discounts on hotel stays. At smaller properties, it has a very family type atmosphere and you can get recognized for performance more often then larger properties. Working for a upper-tier full service hotel company.
Cons
EC not really supportive. They do all they can Mon-Fri during their "banker hours" shifts but nowhere to be found on weekends when they are needed. Very political. Long hours, difficult guests, little recognition or support. Over the past several years, the Atlanta region has cut back on productivity so you will have less people doing more work for below-par compensation. Proof of that is look at any reviews of Starwood Hotels on-line and most complaints will be about long lines at the front desk or rooms not ready.

Hotel discounts at other properties for employees, freinds and families. Tremendous opportunity for advancement, especially if you are willing to relocate. Work with a very diverse group of people... many from other countries and cultures.
Cons
Working at the property-level can be exhausting and taxing on your personal life. For example, many of the Food and Beverage and Banquets staff members work 60-80 hours per week. Managers sometimes work such long hours that they sleep 2-3 hours in a room and return to working another 12 hours.

Friendly working atmosphere where management and employee relationships were valued
Jul 3, 2013 - Bellman in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Large company with many opportunities for career advancement. The associate development program is an avenue for employees to train for management positions and put themselves in a position to succeed.
Cons
There weren't many specific cons I experienced while working for Starwood. The hospitality industry as a whole requires a flexible working schedule and long hours often including working on holidays. This is a con of the industry as a whole and not specific to Starwood.

Pros
I worked at several properties and everyone came together as a team. True caring about growth and long term career. Ever changing environment keeps you on your toes. Lots of opportunity for growth in each property and as a company with transferring.
Cons
Long hours and often six day weeks on the operations side. Continuous guest interaction can provide positives but mainly a lot of negative experiences. Got burn out dealing with being yelled at by guests daily. Salary is not great until you reach management level.
