Pros
Great company, great brands, great on property staff.
Cons
1) too much money spent on projects that don't generate the required ROI. 2) I work at corporate and the politics across teams is disgraceful. It is the absolute worst I have seen in any organization across my career. Our current CIO has not created any positive change for the past two years. The CIO prior to her announced his retirement desires two years before he left the CIO role! This empowered the IT leaders (= VPs) to play even more politics and run projects like little spoiled kids. The business leadership was much the same way. Put them together and what do you get? You get a company bought by their rival. KUDOS, IT and Business leadership at Starwood!!

Pros
This was a great company to work for, but now with the Marriott merger pending, most if not all of the finance team in Scottsdale will be terminated over the next year.
Cons
Unfortunately Starwood's board and SLT took their eye off the ball over the last five years and the competition took advantage of market opportunities while we focused on IT as our strategy. Too bad about this great company going away and that the board and executive level is getting paid out and leaving the rest of us without a job.

Not bad and treated right
Jun 1, 2012 - Bartender in Phoenix, AZRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You knew the vision and goals of the company. Great employee rates on multiple properties and discounts on food and in-house entertainment.
Cons
My hotel was a franchise and as such had different rules but did have to adhere to corporate standards for employees. Make sure your hotel is corporate owned, you probably will get treated more fairly. Also, if a franchise make sure they have been around for awhile, mine left us with a dwindling property becuase he did not want to spend the money on upgrades that corporate required.

great, innovative company that is growing quickly
Jun 26, 2011 - Director of OperationsRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
market leading in many areas, innovative with TONS of potential for hard workers. Overall, this is a great company and improving each day. I wouldn't leave for one of the other big hotel companies unless I was 'forced' to.
Cons
Corporate offices are filled with MBA types that have no field experience. Sometimes it feels like they are pushing things into the field without thinking through how it will affect those of us working in the 'real world'. Starwood has grown really fast and they haven't figured out how to maximize the pipeline of talent in the field. They're getting there but still have room to improve!

Great company
Jan 9, 2014 - Human Resources Manager in Atlanta, GARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There are a lot of opportunities as this is a worldwide company. Great discounts on hotel rooms as well. There are 9 brands and therefore cater to different personalities.
Cons
Sometimes processes are not well thought out when they are cascaded down to the properties from corporate. Sometimes feels there is a disconnect because they are not aware of operations on property level and some of the changes they implement sometimes do not make sense.

Great company... Good benefits
Dec 11, 2015 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Starwood was a great company to work for because of the benefits given for paid time off and sick/holiday pay. There are lots of optimism Bangor insurance even at a part time status. Also really great travel benefits for employees to stay at other Starwood properties.
Cons
Downsides include poor management at the lower management levels. Could be only the property I worked at. Supervisors and department managers changed often which made consistency in the work place nearly impossible.

Starwood Hotels has provided me with great opportunity for the past five years of my life.
Mar 16, 2011 -RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Starwood hotels is a great company because it allowed me to always have something to fall back on when I would come back into town during the summers from college.
Cons
Starwood Hotels provides great all around opportunity but I found myself limited when I wanted to move positions within the hotel.
