    I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    It was an okay place to work that offered incentives to do well. A good community among the employees.

    Cons

    Pressure to make sales, goals that were impossible when people would call simply to say they forgot their shoes in a hotel room, were bitten by bugs, or to ask if there was a pool at the hotel. We had to pretend we worked in the hotels rather than a call center, which could be awkward when the computer system froze and we were asked a question we'd know if we really worked at the hotel. Also, I was fired the day after my supervisor found out I was pregnant- and this was also following a very positive performance review. I was walked off the premises by security as though I were a sociopath (which is standard practice there) but was incredibly traumatic.

    Advice to Management

    I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great product, discounts, benefits, coworkers, most supervisors are very patient with learning curve

    Cons

    Communication with sups and hr (hr didn't know I was fired for a few days) sup said he spoke with hr beforehand, ill programed computers, could save so much on handletime if programmed better

    Advice to Management

    FIX THOSE GD COMPUTERS, I have never seen such bad coding in my life, I understand this wasn't a coding job but, the fact my vacation was "submitted successfully" as the computers show, misleading me to think nothing else needed to done until approved or denied, put me in the position of being fired. This never would have happened if coding the PCs would have made more sense. Don't get me started on the reservation part of the computers.

    I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    * Helpful and friendly people.
    * Good starting pay.
    * Very good benefits including health, HSA and 401K plans.
    * Bonus structure.
    * Annual Holiday party.
    * Employees discounts.

    Cons

    * Subjective QA process which results in contestable responses from monitored employee and their supervisors.
    * Inefficient QA process based on contested monitor.
    * Due to the amount of time to review each monitored call, employees may not take the time to send back every issue however, the monitor directly affects their bonus.
    * Software can be cumbersome and glitchy.

    Advice to Management

    Hopefully, the merger with Marriott and rollover into new reservation system will resolve software issues and address QA inefficiencies.

    I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great benefits, majority of the people are easy going and friendly

    Cons

    They expect you to be hitting your conversion almost right out of training, the coaches (depending on who you get) are always hovering over you and telling you more of what you did wrong than what you did right

    Advice to Management

    Don't just throw the trainees out on the phones and expect them to excel less than two weeks out of training. ESPECIALLY those who have not ever worked at a call center before.

    I have been working at Starwood Hotels & Resorts (More than a year)

    Pros

    They do send us on work-related workshops which help us do our work better. Positive office environment with friendly colleagues and supervisors.

    Cons

    Employees are not recognised or valued as individuals. HR is recruiting new staff batch by batch (up to 12 in a batch) each month but there is no effort to retain talent because each employee is just a headcount. Company is rigrid and does not care about employee welfare with often the excuse of business operational needs.

    Advice to Management

    Instead of doing a massive recruitment, maybe the management can really listen to employee feedback and retain existing talents.
