      hmm....

      Pros

      - solid community of research staff that are supportive of one another - visibility of research profile is valuable for many research coordinators if you're looking to transition to other roles within 2-5 years

      Cons

      - little onboarding process for research centre I was in - few opportunities for advancement/mentorship - workplace bullying, sexism, harassment, racism from certain scientists were not only an open secret, but leadership had names shared to them and did nothing - high staff turnover at coordinator level, particular staff who aren't white or straight - ethics of research processes were not as respected/followed as they should be - sometimes research had harmful implications

      Pros

-perform wet-lab or dry-lab research under supervision of leading scientists and clinician-scientists -well-organized program with a student poster conference near the end -modern research building (LKSKI)

      Cons

-perhaps more opportunities to connect students would be helpful -the pay in research is not representative of their important, and similarly, the student research pay is even worse

Do not work here if you have any sort of ambition or drive

      Pros

-This review applies specifically to the Office of Research Administration (ORA) at St. Michael's Hospital -cushy job -pension -lazy managers (you can get away with a lot) -good work-life balance-you can leave everyday on the dot at 5pm -great place to work if you're just waiting for your pension to kick in or are happy with the status quo

      Cons

-low salaries -no opportunities for advancement -management and leadership do not deal with under performing/lazy staff members. Instead they shift work to high-performing individuals instead of dealing with the actual problem. There is no performance management in place and the solution is always to shift work to the younger more ambitious staff members away -there are a lot of "lifers" at the Research Institute who bank on their seniority and the large severance package they will get. As a result there is little to motivate these individuals and nothing gets done unless their work is shifted to staff members with better work ethic -Leadership and management are unprofessional in the way they handle issues brought up by staff members. Instead of using a direct approach, most issues get brushed under the rug never to be dealt with -There is no innovation at this Research Institute. Any new ideas that are brought forth are usually squashed due to lack of drive, opportunity or willingness to change the way things have been done for many years
