    Southwest Airlines Response

    March 5, 2015Senior Specialist, Communications

We have always supported our Employees and their right to express their opinions. And, we are committed to continue working to secure agreements that are fair to all Employees—contracts that protect our position as a low-cost leader in the industry and enable the Company to grow. Southwest Airlines has been hiring more Ground Ops Employees to accommodate an increase in workload. This increase was needed because we are attracting more Customers; in part, because of our Bags Fly Free campaign. And more Customers means more bags. (In fact, Southwest now handles more bags than any other carrier.) The good news is we have increased our staffing levels at a higher rate than bags handled. Our Agent staffing is the highest it has ever been, which has translated into more even workloads. Over the last three years, the annual number of bags handled per Ramp Agent has steadily declined. Our Customers come back again and again—not only for Bags Fly Free, but also because our Employees provide great Customer Service.

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The best corporate culture you will find in the Fortune 500. The stories you have heard are true. Senior Leaders all the way down to Supervisors actually care about their people. Sure, you'll run into a couple jerks here and there, but the good news is that they don't last. The benefits are also amazing.

    Cons

If you can't handle a high-paced, ever-changing work environment Southwest may have limited options for you.

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Amazing people and people-focused approach from the company as a whole. Great benefits with 401k match and annual Profit Sharing

    Cons

Southwest is very culture focused and they discourage remote positions because they want teams to be together as much as possible - not really a con unless you are interested in working from home.
