I have been working at SolarWinds full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent work environment, have made life long friends working here over 6 years. Have been promoted 5 times over the past 6 years and have seen numerous colleagues do the same in that time span. Have referred multiple close friends, and would do so again and again! it is a fast paced environment that breeds the best in sales culture and work ethic! If you are looking to start your career in software sales, advanced your career after being stagnant in current role, or even make a switch to a fast sales cycle vs a long enterprise cycle THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! Free lunches are a bonus, excellent work benefits, UNCAPPED commission potential.

    Cons

Long work hours, high demands on a monthly sales cycle (not for everyone).

    Pros

Free lunch twice a week. Also free coffee.

    Cons

Working hard and putting in overtime is never enough. Constant pressure to perform harder and do more with no appreciation.

I worked at SolarWinds full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Free lunch and decent benefits

    Cons

While this place has a great product, they do an awful job at selling it. You’ll get minimum training to learn the product but have engineers to help. Everything is based on DISCOUNTS TODAY/THIS WEEK so expect less commission than you should get. They prefer to give someone 50% off today than full price tomorrow. And if you want to work a deal strategically, your manager will email your customer to offer a discount regardless. Good leads like online quotes (basically freebies) get sent to favorited reps. So while one works hard, others get things handed to them because “they’re better sales reps.” This is an amazing role for someone who has no experience and doesn’t realize the amount of tech sales jobs in Austin. The culture is awful unless you want to feel like you’re in a frat house... but with high schoolers. Guys will talk about girls very openly in a “rude manner” for better lack of terms. Best part about working here is that there are constant changes and your pipeline can get taken from you at anytime. Ex. Worked a 200k deal for a year and the quota was given to a rep that never spoke to the customer once. So I personally got to watch someone get an award that I deserved during SKO. They also use fear as a motivator. You’re new? Start worrying because you will get put on a PIP if you don’t perform during your ramp up time while your manager doesn’t even try to help you. Best advice is to get on your managers best side by going to get drinks with him/her and ask for online quotes. Also, during end of month/quarter, everyone is REQUIRED to work late and skip lunch. You get paid OT but it gets old after a few months to sit on your phone until 8pm just because C levels want people in their seats. This company doesn’t care about anyone. They treat you like you’re replaceable and the turnover rate shows it. Overall, great gateway to tech sales but gold companies recognize that SolarWinds has NO sales process in place.

    I worked at SolarWinds

    Pros

    - Free lunches twice a week - Well known brand in the market

    Cons

    - Toxic management especially in the Sydney office, i.e. management tends to talk down on employees and encourages workplace bullying - No room to grow and move - Micromanagement - Too many product acquisition and poor integration of teams - Some products/features are not competitive - Lowest salary range compared with similar positions at other companies

    Cons

Leadership does not care employees. Stressful and toxic work environment. Managers use scare tactics to try and “motivate” the sales team. Everybody is unhappy and planning an escape if they are still working at SolarWinds. Worst software sales job experience I’ve ever had.
